I was wondering this too. Possibly to fit a bigger airbox

 

I was thinking about it, and fitting a Gen5 airbox...

if its not possible with the same wiring we would need to build a extension harness, and I bet it would be a pain in the ass to build.

 

You would for sure need an extension harness and the pain in the ass would be quite large. I don't think it would be worth the hassle. If you're not putting down huge numbers there's little advantage to getting more air in there.

 

Agreed. But i just dont like the fact the air filter is quite small compared to alot of bikes.
What about simply cutting and extending the wires so it can be located elsewhere?
Maybe a loss of voltage due to longer wires?
Please dont tell me it cant be done coz you know what im like, it'll just make me wanna do it more lol

 

LOL !!! I'll let you know since I'm putting a Gen 4 race ECU on my Gen 1 ! Hopefully I'll get busy with that in the next month

 

I'm sure you can do it, there's a shit ton of wires so have fun lol. The filter is only slightly smaller. You can get 200hp (30hp gain) with the stock airbox.

 

If you're looking for more air filter surface area, you can get one of the super spendy MWR filters.

I reckon that if a larger filter would give easy HP gains, Kawi would have done it. Considering the hassle to make more room for it, I'd say it would be better to invest time/money elsewhere.

Another interesting bit of data there; I believe it was Dricked, who upgraded to the larger air intake pipe (integrated into fairing stay) and it actually slightly hurt the performance?

 

That was me but I think that it was more of an effect from the conditions. I would have to try them back to back and there just wasn't time for that this year. It may have helped at Mosport.

 

if you look in one of my post I modified the gen4 box, and made it flow a lot better with the floor of the box
