Check the steering head bearings , they kind of "click" if they are marginally loose. By the way , this is a common problem from the factory.

It's the bearings, had that sound a few weeks ago and I tightened them down and all is good now.

Can someone post a "how to" on this for us mechanically challenged?

 

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it. Like M45 said, anyone have a how-to on this. I don't yet have a service manual and I am still a bit leary of working on this thing other than the basics. Thanks.

You have to remove the top Yolk to do them properly , but if they are only a little loose you can "adjust" them with a small punch and a hammer.

You will notice 2 castellated rings under the yolk , the lower one is the adjuster and the top one is a locking ring, there is also a tab washer holding the rings in place.

If you insert the punch into the castellation in the bottom ring you should be able to tap it round a little( clockwise) to tighten up the bearing, sometimes you will have to give it a decent smack to get initial movement.
As I said this is a quick fix , the real way to do it is to remove the top yolk , bend back the locking tab on the ring and use a "C" spanner to tighten up the ring.

I would suggest, before getting too carried away with a front-end rebuild, check that it's not something as simple as the clutch cable tapping the fairing when the forks are compressed. This is completely harmless but, if it really pisses you off, just re-route your cable.

It's worth ruling out the clutch cable first.

 

I wouldnt call a couple of rings a front end rebuild, but yep check the clutch cable , mine didnt Pop or click but it rubbed slightly on the inner fairing.

 

I had mine tighten 6 weeks after I got the bike of the dealers floor because it was popping also. SofB charged me for their poor craftsmanship.
