Muffler box delete with slip on

I understand that in most typical situations one wouldnt need a power commander or bazzaz to run just a slip on. However does this box that the gen 3's have have a cat in them?

I am considering going with an M4 street slayer as my muffler; which deletes the box. So with the added flow will that run the bike to the limit of needing fuel management?

Thanks

The catalytic converter is in the head pipe. The "boom box" you're referring to is nothing more than a sound baffling pre-muffler chamber. Remove it and you'll still have the cat in there.

The headpipe design is typically what requires tuning with a piggyback controller like a PC or zFI. Would the bike benefit from a tune with a slip-on? Sure it will. Is it needed with a link pipe/slip-on? Nope.

I didnt realize it had no cat... I was under the assumption the bike was utilizing two cats... So what are your thoughts on the m4 slayer? I will not be going pcv until next year; i just need a little more sound then what the oem trumpet produces. Not to mention how gawd awful it looks.

The bike does have two cats, they are both in the headpipe. It's a 4 into 2 into 1 set up, and the cats are in both sides of the 2-pipe section directly under the motor. The box is nothing but a baffling chamber.

The M4 is a decent pipe and a lot of the members run them on their bikes. I'm considering the street slayer it for my Gen 4.

When you pull the boom box off, shine a flashlight into the headpipe. You'll see the platinum honeycomb of the catalytic converter on both sides. To remove it, you eaither go to a full system or get out a drill and punch to remove it out of the header. The Gen 2 is the same way, but that section of the pipe unbolts instead of being welded like the Gen 3.

just get a slip on this year and delete the boom box. Your bike will be fine without a power commander from just adding a slip on. Then my advice would be, next year when you get a pcv, gut your cats and then install the pcv and get it custom tuned. Gutting the cats will get you a little better sound and a couple hp.. I currently am running the carbon fiber m4 slayer and gutted cats. Waiting for nicer weather to get the bike custom dyno-tuned.

What is the purpose of the boom box? Just to cut out drone or noise? Much like a resonator on a car?
Sound. Can't kill all the noise with the short muffler to meet noise pollution standards, so they have to add a baffling chamber.

Will i get an FI light if I remove the cables from the motor under the seat but not the motor? I see that there is a resistor mod that will allow for removal but until I can get to radio shack I was curious.

I see alot of slip ons going on these bikes but no one really talking about FI codes from it.

The servo eliminator is only needed if you remove the servo.

If you just remove the cables but leave the servo there you wont have a light.

Cool deal!

 Nice! Good information! Hope it right (that's only because I was lead wrong before )?????

I've been told it does and some type of servo elimator is needed.

I could be wrong???
Dam I was crazy late and wrong!!!

You may have good luck with the M4 map. Try it out and see what you think and go from there. If the bike responds reasonably well, then you should be able to run that map. If not, just zero it out and run that one. If your map is set to all 0's, it effectively won't be doing anything.

If the M4 map is bad, you'll likely feel some part throttle surging or lurching while riding or it won't be really smooth under acceleration. If it's way off you'll know it pretty quickly. It takes just a few seconds to hook up and download a new map to try.
