who’s had both akrapovic and graves? which sounds better to you?

I currently have a graves and its on the quiet side. The akrapovic with the link pipe sounds sexier in the youtube videos. Have any of you changed from graves to akrapovic? If so how big of a difference is in sound. Is it worth it? Are you happy with the upgrade?

I just need a tad louder at higher rpm. At idle don’t really want it to be too loud but definitely at WOT.

I know some of you will say save the money but my zx10 has everything I need but the sound I’ve been looking for.

Thank you.

You don't want anything louder than the Graves. And the Akra DEFINITELY is quieter than that! Both sound great, but the you already have the best exahust you're going to find that meets your criteria.
I can't comment on the Graves as I have not heard one in person. My Akro & midpipe though is a dream. Cannot fault the quality or sound. At idle and low down it's not obnoxiously loud, but has a beautiful deep hum. When you hit the power band it opens its throat and screams. Fantastic pipe.
I have both systems to me graves sounds louder
iv had both the graves and the race Akra 60mm (current) stock form the akra is quieter due to the long can, cut it down 12cm to what would look like a arrow racing exhaust and its prob a little louder than the graves.
Are you talking about a full exhaust system or slip-ons with a stock header? Both companies sell both configurations. Akra makes more than one slip-on for the gen4 these days, some are short and some are long. The longer cans are going to be quieter. Some personal observations...

The smaller Akra slip-on is very loud when paired with the stock header and the Akra link pipe. I used to have a Graves slip-on, one of my friends has the tiny Akra (like the one pictured). His bike was much louder than mine. If louder is what you want, the small Akra can and link pipe will provide that if you are sticking with the stock header. The other options from Akra are going to be the same or even quieter than the Graves.

I bought my Graves slip-on because it was cheap, it got rid of the cat and I liked the way the bike looked without an exhaust hanging off the tail section. I removed it after I kept hitting the end cap on the raised curbing at a couple of tracks that I ride.

Regarding which sounds better, I don't really pay much attention to exhaust sound (unless it's obnoxiously loud) so I don't have any input on that.

I've never owned an akra, but I get compliments on the sound of my full graves exhaust from time to time. I like it. Sounds pretty mean when I'm on the pipe, and just riding around it doesn't sound annoying.

My buddy has a full akra on his cbr 1krr and it also sounds great. Won't go wrong either way.

A bunch of us have put videos of the exhaust sounds on the Exhaust Options thread if you want to have a sticky beak.

Gen 4 and 5 don't sound much different imo.
I had full akra system on 07 fz1 and graves slip on 07 r1 and two g4 10r's, same slip for both 10r's. Not absolutely sure but both sounded the same to me. I think the graves slip is a bit louder when applying heavy throttle but not sure of that, either. I wear ear plugs so don't hear much.
Akro all the way... It's deep and mellow at idle and sounds butter smooth when wide open best of both worlds.

The longer Akrapovic can will sound much better and be easier on the ears of people around you than the short Graves.

I have to disagree. If you mean quieter, then that may be true, but I think the sound is very good coming out of the graves compared to the akras that I have heard. I've never heard anyone around either one of those exhausts complain about them either.
Graves by a long shot. Any yes, I've had them both. I did not get rid of the graves, the bike was stolen one week after installation lol.
I have a full Graves on my GEN4 and a Cat Eliminator Graves on my GEN5. For some reason the GEN5 is WAY louder than the GEN4. I personally do not like loud so I much much prefer the quieter GEN4 exhaust. The GEN5 is obnoxious.
