This has happened to me a couple times and Im not really sure what the deal is. It seems to only happen in 5th or 6th gear. Ill be accelerating (not WOT but somewhat aggressive) and when I shift from 5th to 6th and give it gas I dont accelerate but the RPMs increase like Im in neutral. Then all of a sudden if FEELS like the clutch slams into gear and my back tire brakes loose. It kind of freaks me out cause it doesnt happen all the time so it catches me off guard and Ill be going about 80 when the tire breaks loose. NOT FUN! I checked my chain and I had 1 1/4in slack. So I adjusted it to spec. Could that have been the issue? It kind of sounds like its rattling a little bit before the bike catches. I also checked the teeth on my back sprocket and it looked good, but I havent checked the front yet. I also looked at other posts about clutches sticking but Im thinking that this isnt the problem. The only reason why Im not leaning toward this is that my 10 has 11000+ miles on her and I would hope the clutch wouldnt be sticking. Could my clutch maybe be going out? Like I said Im kind of at a loss. Anyone heard of this or have any ideas? Oh and its a 04. Also Ive only had the bike for about 3 weeks and put about 500 miles on it so I dont have a lot to compare it too (ie shimmys, vibrations)but it seems to be the same throughout all the gears. And I believe its -1 in the front, stock in the back.

Short shifting under load- you're missing the shift. Worn detent star from repeated abuse?

Well I know the guy before me use to drag it.......would it only possibly be the detent star? Or could it be more? Cause Ive been thinking of putting in a factory pro shift kit in anyways.

Not the chain, worst case the shift forks could be damaged or the dogs are worn from poor shifting/abuse. Not the chain at all. My 05 would do the exact same thing if the upshift wasn't performed properly. Does this happen all the time? You may just need to work on getting a positive upshift @5th-6th.PM FAF and ask him, he has a much better grip on all things mechanical.
