Fairing conection system. I hate you. You have managed to mass produce a house of cards taht makes oil changes far more difficult than they ought to be. The guy that did the 04-05 did a better job. Please go work for Suzuki. That is all.:fu2:

I don't have to take any fairings off to change my oil. I turn the front wheel and there is plenty of room for my right arm to reach between the header and get to the oil filter. i just make an aluminum foil funnel for the oil to run out of the fairings on. The funnel leads the oil right into the drain bucket.

I am confused to why you take off the fairings?

I guess I never attempted without removing the lowers. I will look into it next time.
As mentioned, you just need a little piece of scrap metal or cardboard or something to keep the oil off your headers. other than that, not a big deal.

However, I'd agree...that stupid tab thing on the lower fairings was a bad idea, whether you need to take it off or not.

I don't know why you are having a problem..

I do not remove the fairings for an oil change..

Drain oil, reach and remove filter, replace drain plug, new filter, fill up...my only issue is that the sight glass is such a pain in the a**ss to see when you are refilling with oil

It is only a bit harder than changing oil on the Suzuki TLs..and the oil thing easier than that was just not doing it..:badteeth:

If you want a real excercise in frustration..try doing a filter and oil change on a Honda CBR 1100XX........

I dont even try to catch the oil I just put a towel under the filter when Im removing it to catch the little bit of oil, yes you have to be a contortionist to change oil on the 2nd gen, but its not that big a deal, come over and change the oil on my yamaha grizzly quad sometime if you want to see a real pain in the ass!!

It sucks but I found a technique that works well enough for me.

As for not removing the lowers...I like to have a good look inside the fairings to check for loose bolts, leaks, and other signs of maintenace being required. I use the oil change intervals as a complete bike inspection time.
