Tank grips on sides for leg grip

4506 Views 19 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  vroomshankar
What are you guys using for best fit quality etc.
Stomp? Do they fit well or do I buy sheet and trace/trim myself?.
Pics please if you care to. Im aiming toward clear vs black to keep my green showing through. Not int in center ,just sides.
Thanks
Lau

I prefer the TechSpecs over the Stomp grips. The Stomp grips are the only ones that are clear though. They are just a bit harsh on my legs due to the depth of the traction teets sticking out from it. Especially in riding jeans on the street, they aren't as comfortable as the TechSpecs IMO. And guys claim they tear up the leathers pretty good at the track. But, they will offer more grip because of this.

Usually you buy them as a kit for your bike that comes pre-cut and ready to apply. If you prep the surface good and make sure it's clean, they should go on easily and stay put until you're ready to remove them. Or you can buy a sheet and cut custom ones for other areas and applications. Check them out here (I don't know what year you're looking for) and then see if Mike at Rider's Discount can get these for you at a much better price.

I use stomp grip. I love them. I have taken them off and repositioned without any issues. Really high quality stuff. Only downside is they do no stick around corners and bends because the plastic is so thick. I have the clear. I bough this kit. I also have them on the ninja 300 and the drz400sm.

techspec here too. stompgrip comes in clear but, the "traction bumps" are VERY HARD on clothing, leathers ect.... meaning it will wear holes in them. lots of track day people are using HT Moto products for this option, and they come in about every color you can imagine but, you have to make your own template. which isn't very hard with a sheet of wax paper and a highlighter. you only need one side template, then flip it over, and you have the twin for the other side.

the ht products have been around a long time, it was first introduced as grippy pads for jet skis.

Yes stomp grip will chew through jeans pretty easily if you move around on the bike. It hasn't been very harsh on my A stars track pants or Scorpion one piece. But they do show some signs of wear. I don't commute on the zx10r and I am 99% of the time in leathers when I ride it. So I use the full pre cut kit for the zx10 and it works great for griping with the legs. For the ninja 300 and the drz (commuting bikes) I have small amounts from the generic kit I bought and cut small pieces for aggressive riding situations. I would like to try the tech spec as well.

@Ski HT looks pretty cool. You can request a traction sample from them in different colors.

I had the Tech Spec pads on and didn't like them. They made it more difficult to move around on the bike so I took them off and don't use pads at all I like it better without the pads. Just my 02
I've used Stomp Grips and also Chinese copies (good on a budget), but I fitted Tech Spec C3 this time and I would recommend them highly. They are easy to re position if you don't get it right first time and can be taken off and refitted easily. The Chinese glue was poor by comparison and difficult to re stick. They also come with a center spine pad not shown in photo.

Everyone will have their own opinion on this, which is why we sell both. :grin2:

Nothing. stomps shred the suit and only work for out dated supers. 10r's are designed perfectly as is for precise control.
"out dated supers"?

Not worried about wearing out my leathers, 3 sets 2 are thick Vanson. Also its track duty only so no jeans .

Does the clear stomps yellow alot? Lots of int responses and ideas ,thanks . Ill contact Riders Discount. I kinda like the bumps, i didnt grind hard into past tanks. I was very bowlegged. As im sitting here recovering from knee replacement #2, i knw Ill be leaning hard into tank now that my legs are straight. lol

I've used both tech spec snake and stomp grips.

I'll only use stomps now. I've even taken off the techs and replaced
with stomps.

I love the stomps for both street and track.

I wear leathers 100% of the time and my street leathers
have seen the most use. I rider pretty much 50+ weeks a year and
the knees have a little lighter color but no damage to speak of.
Track suit nothing, no wear signs at all.

I would not suggest trying to cut to fit (universal kit) just
looks like crap, at least my cutting did.

I would suggest to also buy the adhesion promoter (3M 94) either
through stomp or amazon

You do not have to buy the kit for your bike. What I mean for instance
is the kit for my zx14 fit great, but the kit for my out dated super (Gen 2) was
much to large so I fitted the kit for the zx6. You can browse around
their site and look at the diff kits, sizes and shapes

I have not seen the clear yellow at all. but who knows, after a few years
you could always replace as well not a big deal.

Some people say they don't hang off so they don't need them, but even
just riding on the street they make it much easier to ride with your core and
not having to squeeze hard with your knees and you don't slide up on tank etc.

I would avoid the clear ones, mine turned cloudy and discolored after a year of use.

I had clear stomps on 07 r1 and 07 fz1 and they lasted perfectly each for more than 100,000 miles. I needed them on those bikes but do NOT need them on the g4s.
Stompgrips FTW. Been using them on all my bikes since years now and not faced the yellowing issue on the clear ones either. Yes they seem to be slightly more harsh on leathers than Techspec but nothing worth fretting over. Cant imagine riding at the track without them.

P.S - The ones on the Ninja 650 in the pic below are now more than 3 years old with no signs of fading or yellowing.

Guess I got a bum set...my clear set looked like crap after a while of use.

Thank you. I prefer the clear because i like the stealth look and i want the paint/graphics to show through (a little OCD that way). >:)

Black though gets rid of the yellowing issue faced by few people.
