Hi there!

Does anyone know the linkage ratio for the rear suspension? If I increase the length of the shock 1mm, what will the difference be at the rear wheel axle?

Is the linkage ratio progressive? If so, I need to know the linkage ratio at normal sag.

The bike is a 10R 2004.

stefan i'm sorry no one has replied to your question and even though i've changed over to the 05 zx6r dogbone/links i'm not sure what the ratio is. I do believe the 04 10 is progressive but to what extent i'm not sure.

Thanks for the input, although the suspension/sag thread is very important I could not find this specific data (I hope I did not miss it)

I changed the tire to 190/55, which results in the rear is 9-10mm higher than stock (above the rear axle). What I am trying to figure out is the equivalent lenght difference at the rear shock. If I put a 2mm washer at the shock the 2mm is a meaningful reference for me. 10mm above the rear axle does not help me much, although I would suspect the 10mm to be equivalent to perhaps 3mm at the rear shock. (taken into account the progressivity, the assumption is made at dynamic sag.)

Any rules of thumb for the rear tire change compensation?

do you still use the OEM shock? and is the 3mm shim still in place atop it?? if so i'd suggest removing the 3mm shim as the combination of tire height change and shim in place it shifts too much weight forward.

Any rules of thumb for the rear tire change compensation?
typically 2-3mm @ the shock.

Yes, I use the OEM shock, and yes, the OEM shim is still in place.

I usually raise the rear a bit (typically +5mm @shock) on my bikes since I value the "turn in" ability at the expense of rear traction as it pays off with my riding style. I like to have an idea about the original setup, especially before testing at the track, and even though I have only taken the 10R for two small test runs (VERY nice-and-easy ones), it feels like the OEM shim will be a part of the initial setup (and explore traction at exits...).

Anyway, the 2-3mm gives me a good idea of where I am right now!

I've removed my 3mm shim, installed a Penske set the exact length of the OEM shock, extended the wheelbase 19mm with a 112L chain & 16/39 setup which slowed down the steering rate so i raised the tubes and set them 5mm including cap above the triple which helped recoup some of the steering quickness. I must say setup this way the bike is very stable at high speed straights and sweepers but is still not as quick steering as it was in stock form. Now i've recently installed the 05 zx6r dogbone & links and extended the shock 2mm but have yet to ride due to weather so hopefully soon i can test it.

Was the need to improve stability the only reason for extending wheelbase?

Will your new rear shock/links/dogbone setup result in lowering or raising the rear compared to stock?

the05 zx6r parts actually maintain the stock ride height but changes the ratio to a more linear setup so the shock travel is consistent.
