Hi guys, I'm wanting to get a supermoto/dual sport whatever you wanna call it. I'm not to knowledgable on them I only know a few ktms and aprillia, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows what a good bike is. I just wanna have something that sits up right, and do minor stunts just wheelies and shit without having to worry about dumping it cause that's always on my mind with the zx10. It doesn't need to be anything special just a little beater bike. Any info is appreciated on the topic....thanks!

I'm buying a 2006 CRF450R. Mine will mostly be for the track. I don't know much myself but you can check out the supermotojunkies forum
I have a 2016DRZ400SM. It is the bike I ride most on the street (I use it for commuting). Great bike. I love riding it around town more so than my zx10r. Feel free to ask any questions.

May want to look into a fz-07. Can find great deals on like new ones on CL.

Have you done any trackdays?

I have done only one. I use a ninja 300 and zx10r on the track mostly. But the DRZSM is really a heck of lot of fun on the track. The suspension is lacking, but that is to be expected. But I was able to keep up with a faster intermediate pace through the turns, not so much on the straights. I love how light weight and narrow the bike is. It is a heck of a lot of fun. I am not able to stick a foot out and slide the rear end or anything close to that lol. All I have done to it is stainless lines, exhaust, and rejetting. But to be honest, I ride it on the street because it is so fun to run through gears and go around WOT everywhere. On the zx10R, 1st gear goes to the same speed drz400sm tops out at. So it is much more appropriate for street riding and staying out of trouble.
I only have one kart trackday on a friend's WR250x. I rode it like my ZX10r

My little brother stores his 250x in my garage so I, "steal" it from time to time. It has very sticky tires on it and you can just throw the thing around...fun little bike. Honestly If I was going to own a sm I might want something a little bigger though...the suzi 400 needs an update IHMO so I would probably look to a KTM or something
I love my 2007 KTM 950 SMR. Not as light and nimble as a 450 something but awesome at speed and easy to ride a few hundred miles a day. Super comfortable and a great hooligan wheelie machine. It's right at home backing into corners, jumping curbs, and general screwing around on the street. 100 HP V-twin Austrian sexiness. It basically is like riding a 100HP dirt bike with street tires. Nothing feels as good as 120MPH on a dirt bike.

If you don't want something that has off road capabilities I'd go with the fz07 or fz09. Both are great bike with a lot of character. When I bought the drz I was close to buying a fz07, but I need to be able to hit the trails every once in a while.
I've had a drz400sm and a wr250x. I'd get a wr250x again in a heart beat over the drz and would have one in my garage if I didn't get in so much trouble with them. I liked the drz and the wr because the maintenance is so easy on them compared to say a dirt bike converted to a super moto. The dirt bike is going to have a lot more power but isn't really needed if you have a zx10.

My wr250x was mostly stock and 2nd gear wheelies on that thing were perfect and I could carry them farther than anything else I've ever ridden with ease. I could bounce them up in a stand up in 3rd but had to work for it. There are a lot of stunt parts out there for the wr250x if you wanted to get into that, some heavy duty handgaurds is about all you need tho and damage would be minimal if you dropped it. I liked the wr250 due to the 6 speed and fuel injection. They aren't a ton of fun on the highway for long rides or if you ride with all rockets, but they are stupid fun around town going on side walks, park paths, getting great mpg. 2 careless tickets in 6 days for doing wheelies has me keeping away from them for a while lol

Thanks for all the input. I'm gonna look on Craigslist. Mainly looking for the right price I just want something I can throw around and really not care about tipping it or anything
