For Immediate Release:
Respectable Start for the Rookie
Friday June29th, 2012

Stufko Racing competed in there first Canadian Mopar Superbike National, and first Pro Superbike race On June 24th at Shannonvillle Motorsports Park.

The team went into the weekend with no expectations but to finish the weekend with the 2011 Kawasaki ZX10R shiny side up. Tony was getting more comfortable on the bike both ergonomically, and the technical aspects of the bike setup. The one important part was to be prepared for a 22 lap race. Tony worked hard pounding laps in the 40 minute sessions, also getting to know the Pirelli spec tire better as well. Tony was setting his fastest lap 40 laps in and mere :100’s off other returning pros at the end of qualifying. Fortunately through the collaboration of John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies, and Kyle Blakely of Windmill Motorsports a suspension issue was found that was holding Tony back from pushing harder. Bad that we found it late but good we resolved the chatter issues in the front suspension.

Tony pushed hard in the Sunday morning practice, and although comfortable with the bike, he would still start from the back. 45 minutes before the race the rain came, it flirted between wet and dry, but then rained enough to be a wet race. Stufko Racing scrambled to get ready and big thanks to the Leon Racing Team for helping Tony get to the grid. Tony saw himself mid pack in the rain practice and had confidence going into the race with the Pirelli rain tires.

Tony had a great launch and was up to 15th. Then the fog came, not on the track but Tony’s visor. Tony fought fogging all race, seeing him take the run-off on the back straight twice, only to catch the riders ahead again who were lapping 6sec slower. Tony’s lap times would have scene him fighting for a top ten which is what our goal is. We can’t wait to get back out there and compete in 2 weeks at St Eustache July 8th.
