Steering damper removal / light

3971 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  347 tony
Hi All
I've just got a 2014 ZX10R track bike, and I'm trying to identify the warning lights
Can anyone tell me which warning light is triggered by the removal of the electronic steering damper, and if there's a way to turn it off ?
Cheers
Graeme

Welcome. Nice bike!

Lots of threads on the ESD topic if you search. Can't just remove it and no way to get rid of the ESD warning light unless you retain the damper motor.

Yeah, that works as well.:ayyy:
Curious? Any fix for this yet? Or just what's listed? Tks all
Also, does It put the bike In limp mode Or anything? Tks
it just gives you a esd light, nothing more.

pull the motor out of the stock electronic damper (multiple threads on here about it, TDH actually has a video demonstrating how to remove the motor from the stock damper).

after removal of the motor, plug it back into the harness, and zip tie it out of the way. no more light, and you can install whatever damper you like. a/m full ohlins, updated oem ohlins (send to dan kyle racing for updated valving), or a rotary damper, like a gpr.

even with the code on, it doesn't affect the bike in anyway, other than the electronic damper does not work.

I have done 2 of the gen4's like this. I bought a damper from a non esd zx10r (pre 2013 zx10r, and some of the zx6r's are the same damper) from ebay for cheap, sent them to kyle raicing, and for like 85 bux, you get ohlins valving. Ski
