speed indicator crazy

1728 Views 16 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Porschenut
my speedo started to indicate crazy, numbers then cero, numbers.
cleaned the connector of the sensor, and it was full of water, cleaned it and solved the problems for a couple of weeks, then problems came back, changed the sensor but problems continue

only thing aftermarket is the rear brake rotor that is slightly thinner. stock is 4.99 this one is 4.65, but the disk has some time installed and gave me no problems, before.

Will this affect my traction control?

thanks for your help

If the speed sensor isn't working it'll affect your traction control and your ABS. I thought I read somewhere that it'll go into a safe mode, still looking for that info now. Sensors by the tone rings on the wheels ok?

Sensors are clean too? Correct spacing to the rings?

yes, cleaned the sensor again, put the rings closer with spacers, cleaned all the grounds, put a charger on the battery....

same results
latest....
cleaned all contacts aBS and ECU, etc, checked all the lines (my mechanic).

same problem

Reflashed the bike, with a tender on it... (last time was on battery only, and the battery is old).

problem solved.

going to replace battery...
need to decide to change to a hoyusa ytz10s or a interstate ytz9

Im in dominican Republic

A shorai will take a couple of weeks + ocean freight since I cannot airship a battery
changed battery, disconected the sensor to routed correctly.... bad again...

reflashed the ECU.... no problems...

is a gost that this bike has...
the problem eludes me, since on the last ride... it will do it but after 20 miles it would go away, or not...
I have an intermittent problem with my dash as well. The tach, gear indicator, warning lights, speedo all come and go. My fuel warning always works and even if the dash is blank or flashing like a Christmas tree, the traction control and ABS brakes still operate. When my speedo is not functioning, it behaves much like yours as it goes flashes anywhere from zero up to my actual speed.

I suspect that you and I both have wiring issues rather than hardware issues. I feel that way because I've swapped ECUs and clusters with another 2013 ABS just like mine and the problems still persisted.

I'm thinking flash mixed with water causing glitch.
Bike ran perfect today

Good to hear mpp12!

Scout, I think my ECU must be ok, because I swapped ECUs with another 2013 ABS and there were still problems with my display. However, I'll try re-flashing my ECU this summer to see if that helps.
