Shifting – it sucks!

I know, it’s only got 140 miles on it but come on! This thing shifts like shite!

Downshifts are getting a little smoother but upshifts are ridiculous! 90% of the time after an upshift, it kind of hangs there. So when I go to upshift again, it won’t because it’s ‘up’ there. I have to downshift so that I can upshift again. Also, it feels like there’s a notch in the middle of the throw in each gear.

Does this sound like the broken shift shaft episode?

Not happy so far...

you might want to do a search on this as I remember someone saying something about the shift rod can break and cause your shifts to act like that its the rod thats inside the tranny ?? I guess they have a weak spot in them and can break.

Why do you need to blip the throttle for a downshift?
Usually my rpms are carrying so high it downshifts with no problem,I'm skidding the back tire so much it's wearing out.
But to blip the throttle in a downshift,in a case of panic downshift, your speeding up to downshift wacko happens more sooner now.
In cruising mode you should be able to upshift below 4k anytime.
Maybe I don't understand the effect your trying to achieve in your style of riding?

Because at 180 miles it shifts like shite!

Blipping with the clutch in doesn't make you speed up.

'cruise mode'?...

I read the first post and nothing more. Did you drop it on the left side at all? I take it, its a 08 or 09 because of the miles. The shift shaft on atleast the 08's were weak were it bends at the end into a L shape. Causing a crack. This happened to be where if I had to shift up I would press up then have to push back down and up again to shift. Downshifting was the same way just backwards. So if it is a cracked shift shaft this should help.

Try this.
While upshifting make sure you completely unload the shift lever between shifts.. What I mean is make your positive input, then release your foot pressure on the lever, so that your foot is making almost no contact with the lever. I noticed that the shift tends to "hang" if you dont unload it.
Also on downshift it occasionally hangs if you dont have enough RPM. thats weird, i know, but if you come to stop quickly and didnt downshift it doesnt wasnt to:dontknow:
I am not sure y but if u blip as described and release clutch a tad in will drop down the gear.
hope this helps.

:+1: Happened before to other memebers as well, open the clutch basket and check it out.
