So if your bikes peak HP is at 14,400 rpm what is the use of an extra 3,100-3,600 rpm?

Also how far off is the usual limit from the peak?

Well, I think its mainly to allow for some over-rev.

And in case that didnt make any sense, over rev allows you to hold your gear for a little longer, say in a corner, before grabbing the next gear.

That makes sense thank you...

So how much over rev is normal? Are we talking about a few hundred or a few thousand in over revs?

On 600's i've seen 2-3.5k rpm sometimes. Ive noticed that on a 1000, its usually less, maybe like 1-1.5k at most.

so 3,100-3,600 rpms over rev is out of the question?

I am just asking cause the peak HP on the 06 6R is 14,400 but the limit is supposed to be 17,500-18k

Yeah but you knew what I meant...

I am just wondering why so much over rev?

cause it sucks banging off the rev limiter in a corner trying to pass someone. Shifting mid corner isn't a very good thing to do, up or down. Good way to spin up the back end.

That makes sense but do you need 3,100 more? Ara said like 1-1,500 extra...

Performance upgrades will make the peak come at a later RPM. You're looking at a stock machine. My ZX-6RR pulls pretty much all the way to the limiter.
