no one has experience with a PS pump going out??
i know this sounds stupid but is the pulley turning on the pump?? if the belt is new it may not squeel if the pulley is not turning due to the oilly residue the belt is shipped in. this may be where your white smoke is coming from.

Did you replace the old power steering pump or just the fluid? What type of car is it? I need alot more info to understand what type of leak your looking for.

Take your water hose to the area while its running. Stay away from the ignition system. Clean the P.S. pump off.hoses and fittings.

I am geussing by you saying coming from the head. Your refering to the cylinder head? If so Coolant has a very distinct sweet smell to it. As P.S. fluid does not.
