Couldn't pass up the bike. I thought it was a great deal @ $2,700. Of course the mileage is high at 45k miles. That's the only downside. It's not perfect, but it looks pretty good. Nice full Yosh Exhaust on it too =) This was my dream bike that I never got back in the day. I can already say after riding it home though that it is nothing like my '08 10R however. Not nearly as quick, although it has OEM gearing. That could be a big part of it.

Wow, that seems like a bargain for $2700! ya, it's got 45k miles, but it looks really clean.

Most liter bikes run a long time if they're taken care of. many 929's and 954's have seen 100K.....I'm not sure about the zooks, but i'll bet they'd last a while too if people don't wreck them or beat the piss out of 'em.

good find.

yes, I park them outside...come and steal them =) I do have full covg insurance with 0 deductible on the comprehensive. Next best thing to a garage ;-) And the Gixxer isn't all that clean...but it isn't a roach either.

I had a 01 in that same color scheme, a great bike even today. Was a game changer when it came to liter bikes. Great find, I looped mine at 85mhp, but it was mint before that. Some of the best looking gixxers IMHO. Bike had some killer bottom end puch.

I never did like the front end on gixxers....none-the-less good find for that price. Are you going to track it or? :dontknow:

Nice pics of the 2001. Bike was a looker. Sorry it got looped.

Nah, not sure what I'm going to do. It was just a good buy. Rode it tonight for the first time other than the freeway ride home the other day when I bought it, and was more impressed than I originally thought. I can afford to own both bikes. Not a track bike really. More of a mileage hound, to help keep the ZX-10 pristine. Insurance is $11 a month on it for comp/liability. I may re-sell it, or sell the 10R and downgrade. Really don't know?

I had a new 01 gsxr 1K also, infact i bought the 1st one the dealership got in, that was my favorite bike of all time, even now. i put 45K trouble free miles on that bike. honestly i still wish i had it. i sold it to purchase my 05 10R. has yours ever had the valves checked? has the coolant ever been changed? a guy could put a few $100 in that bike and get a ton more miles out of it. nice find man :eek:ccasion1

Yeah, it's imperative to get a substantially better deal on a high mileage bike like mine over one with say 15k miles. Cause odds are if I keep this thing for very long, it's going to need some expensive work. Yeah, I should keep an eye out for low mileage used motors. I've seen some on ebay cheap already. CHeap as in $700. And motor swaps on sportbikes are a cinch, so no problem there.

You just have to be careful with things like brake rotors which can be pricey, and worn clutch baskets/hubs. Those are items on higher mileage bikes that together, can total a large sum of $$$.

I really don't know why I bought this thing other than emotion. I said it before in this thread, but this was my dream bike back in the day. I used to manage a shop in SoCal back in early '01 and we were one of the first to dyno the new GSXR which we did for an article for Roadracing World that compared the R1 to it. The GSXR put down 148 to the R1's 132hp. But the torque curve told the real story. I was in love. I was picking the journalist's brains about the bike and they were telling me about the crazy power wheelies and all that. Really fond memories.

I may or may not keep it. But for now, it's helping keep the miles lower on my 10R so it helps with resale value there I guess.:dontknow:

Anyway, it's pretty cool having two literbikes. Does wonders for my ego:wink:

BTW, Had a little more seat time on the GSXR, and it's more legit than previously thought. Could use some ebc HH front pads as the lever effort is uber high.

Maintain it correctly and theres no need to worry about looking for a low mileage engine for it. They can easily go twice the mileage you have on it now without any major issues. There are guys on gixxerforums with 60, 70, 80K+ miles on the stock engines. I rescued my 04 from a stunting jackass, it was abused and down several times. I put some TLC into her and am approaching 30K miles and it runs great. I would change all of the fluids, (I run Silkolene full synthetic, it shifts smooth as butter) change the gearing to at least a -1, set up the suspension for your weight, if the valve clearance hasnt been checked or if you arent sure, I would definitely do it. Otherwise enjoy it, they are great bikes. Here is mine.

I'm comfortable getting in there to check the valve clearance, and I've got a friend to help me when it comes to actually changing out the shims even though I'm an MMI graduate...I haven't done a shim under bucket valve adjustment since going to MMI =) A bit hesitant to change to a -1 front sprocket since I don't want to spend any more money on a speedo healer or really anything for this bike other than necesseties.

As far as fluids, the guy I bought it off of just put some 15W-50 oil in it =( I'll get that changed out soon as it's probably costing me a couple ponies and a mpg or so. I just need a little more seat time on the thing so I know what to do with it. It's got a power commander on it, but it's running a stock map at the moment. I like your '04 GSXR and what you've done with the sticker removal among other things...looks NICE, and put my GSXR to shame =)
