Anyone had problems with the neutral light on 1st Gens..?

I have a 05 with 14000 miles on it. Took it out for the 1st time this season today for a quick spin. Started just fine and the neutral light was working.. After riding for a couple of minutes had some issues shifting with clutch and going into neutral on stops. Unscrewed the clutch adjuster bout half way out and it was fine...

Then on my next stop the neutral light wasn't working.. When I came home still didn't work so I couldn't start the bike up after I shut it off. When I move the shifter up a bit by hand, right before going into second the light comes on and I'm able to start up.

Could this be cause of the clutch adjustment that I made..?

Sounds like you have something slightly hung up in the linkage or the bearing on the shift star needs lubing better, how old is your oil ??

Changed before winter, bike was started on stand and run through the gears weekly...

It sounds like an alignment issue or the shift star is hanging up, the spring on the detent arm could be week or broken so you can attain over engagement in the gears.

I would check all your linkages first though.
