So is it just a swap job to put the gen5 plastics on? Specifically wondering about the tail, as the gen5 looks a ton better than the gen4.

The gen4 can be changed into a gen5 yes but you will need all relevant parts to do so.
The tail section needs every part from the black subframe upwards. Not the lock or latch though.
But you need to cut and join rear light

So just pick up a gen 5 subframe and presto. Good to know as there is one on eBay right now for $300 haha.

Not that simple.
Rear undertray.
All rear plastics.
Rear subframe alloy top piece. The sides are the same!
Riders seat is the same.
Lock will fit and work but gen5 has slightly shorter cable which would be better.
Rear light which plug isnt direct fit. Needs cutting and joining.
Plastic part that sits on top of the seat latch is needed as it holds top cowl and lean sensor.
Most other parts can be utalised from the gen4 like bolts etc..
Tank needs removing.
Ideal time to change the shock or links or change air filter!
Its not rocket science but its not easy and took me about 6 hours.
Buy used pannels as it should have all the rubber grommets in it all ready.

2016 Kawasaki Zx10R Subframe and battery tray OEM | eBay

So would just need, the various plastic pieces, and splice the wiring.

I do not have the bike anymore. The lean angle sensor just needs bolting to the gen5 black plastic piece inside the cowling. The rear light loom just needs cutting and joining to the light wires

Rode the bike a bit since I have tons of work that combo. Gen4 with gen5 head the bike is a beast. Rips.
It has more meat on the mid range and carries it over top end. It just wants to rev

What porting have you done to the head? Velocity porting G4 heads same thr same effect. Air fuel mixture has to be already travelling at speed to improve mid range response and torque on these engines.
