Has anyone bought a motor and had the serial number on the case checked to make sure it is legal??

if so, where did you have it done??

the reason im asking is that i found a super good deal on a few motors that i need for projects i have going on. i never keep my projects very long after they are done, and would hate for something to fall back on me for buying a motor that is illegal.. i was told that i would get a bill of sale for what ever i bought, but id rather be safe than sorry...

thanks for the help..

I think you can check VIN numbers on Kawi's website? I remember checking into a bike I had bought a while back. If that's the number you're referring to. Or maybe you're talking about something totally different and in that case I have no clue.

He said the "case" not "frame" so he was referring to the motor number on the back of the case. NOT the VIN on the frame. He's just buying a motor already parted from the bike so he may not even have access to the VIN that the motor had come from. The VIN's and motor #'s are different. He is concerned that a motor number could be linked to a stolen VIN# and therefore be considered HOT. I would imagine that the VIN and motor #'s are not linked. If they are, that would be a plus for anyone recovering stolen property. No where on the title does it state the motor #

Old thread, I know
