Has anyone tuned a 10R for midrange power? For street use the motor doesn't appeal to me. I'd buy a new RR tomorrow if I thought I could get anything out of it. Maybe with cams or cam timing?

Full exhaust and a sprocket with a tune is all you can really do. It's built with top end in mind and you'll compromise too much to get just a few extra with cams. You won't need anything else after its flashed, tuned, exhaust and sprocket anyway

earlier Gens you can swap down cams.....Gen 1-3 swap easily. Untill we get variable cam timing, it's one world or the other.

Unless you open the motor, deck the head and run a thin headgasket, then you can have a good compromise of mid and top power with the right cam timing.

Doesn't need full exhaust. Doesn't need anything. Plenty of power available once you're dialed into the bike.
Its difficult to take you seriously sokmetimes...

The guy is asking how to increase the mid range because he's rode the bike and for him it needs more power and youre giving your standard reply of keep it stock. He asked what he needs to do to increase the mid range.. You have no idea what sort of rider he is and how much seat time he has and seat time doesn't increase power, it just makes him more used to a restricted down on power bike.

It's funny that though...If you dyno each of the latest litre bikes, they make near enough the same power and it's gearing that alters where the meat of the power is felt.

In terms of the OP, I think the latest CBR1000RR makes power earlier in the rev range than the others so maybe for street use, it is the best.

I have heard it compared to a 750 in terms of user friendliness...It doesn't make the crazy top end like a ZX10R and S1000RR but you go faster because you feel more confident in it's power delivery.

Some have said it's boring which is the cliche to describe Hondas, but how can 180ish horsepower be boring. Idiots!

The zx10r isnt renowend for midrange.
The problem i think is that the whole engine is designed for top end power. People say you can tune the bike to get higher torque but you will also get higher bhp in that same area so its just making the bike more lairy. What you want for the road is more torque and less bhp in that same area so you can ride on the engines grunt.
After riding a big bang r1 that was tuned i can say forget about the torque if you want to stay with the zx10r.
The big bang smashed my zx10r on grunt by a massive amount.
If the big bang wasnt ugly and snatchy on and off the throttle id say it was the best superbike for the road.

But then youd leave so much usable power and rpm on the table... that would be the worst thing to do to a 4th gen.
I meant putting regrinded g4 cams into RR head.
I would give all top end power away to get nice low and midrange power instead if that would be my streetbike.

Would still kill top end. It would be like a cross between a gen 2 and gen 3

I have and have 185 rwhp on mine. Spend $10,000 on various mods and here's my result. I replaced the mid pipe with the converter. PLUS AKRA SHORTY WITH THE PLUG REMOVED (!!!!) with a ecu reflash, bazzaz and custom map, my bike is smooth and fast from bottom to top. I am up 2 in the back and there isn't much that can pass me. I have the secondaries removed too.

GenII, end of thread. After extensive mods to my G2 the power comes on strong around 6K and is a freight train til about 12K.

Again and again I repeat: no reason to do anything to this bike or any liter unless you're totally dialed into the bike on both street and track and then you may have to adjust cassette for a particular track to pressure the mega fast guys.

Simply asking the question about mid range begs the question about skill level. Get Code's Twist Wrist II and take his superbike classes using his rr's.

If you google zx10r dyno charts there is a brilliant picture of 2012 zx10r versus all other superbikes available at that time.
It shows what im on about.
You can increase the torque but the shape of the power curve is always leaning towards top end power.
What i found interesting is the rc8 must be absolutely awsome on the road. Massive grunt and a very torquey power curve.
Infact id bloody love to get one.
The honda has good power curve for the road.
The zx10r is quite flat and good for track riding.
And the s1000rr is a beast.

Ive ridden crossplane and s1000rr and i can safely say s1000 has nothing on crossplane.
Crossplane grunt is epic.
S1000rr is docile in comparison but has the extra bhp to whip the crossplane higher in the rev range.
If you hit a bump in the road whilst on a crossplane then youd better be holding on tight as it can snatch the bars out of your hand.
The snatchyness is its downfall unfortunately
