In case you need a little humor today...

Interesting Stats

Regardless of where you stand on the issue of the U.S. involvement in Iraq, here's a sobering statistic.

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths.

That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 persons for the same period.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington

Nice. I like the stats that compare m/c related fatalities to automobile fatalities, that show bikes a whole lot safer than cars.

Yeah, I love manipulated statistics too. I haven't checked the numbers, but let's assume they're close enough. I'd just like to add:

-We're talking about the number of US troops and the number of US casualties., not the total mortality rate in Iraq.

-2112 people carrying guns, wearing bulletproof vests, and driving around in armoured vehicles were killed. I'm thinking if the residents of ANY city in the world were as well equipped as the forces in Iraq the casualty rate would drop as well. Soldiers are much more likely to suffer permanent injury, but we're conveniently ignoring that fact.
