I have the entire bike ripped apart checking the valves. I have the service manual in chapter 2-30 and Drainfades write up. My question is now do you know if you are on the compression or exhaust stroke of #1? Which way should the intake lobe be facing on cylinder 1? Either I'm doing something wrong or my valves are way out.

You have to roll it 180 degrees for the "other" side. The lobes will point away from the side you're measuring...if they're not then you didn't roll it around enough. It drops into each TDC...literally. Turn it slowly and it'll drop into TDC of either 1 or 4 but remember you need the compression stroke..so if it doesn't seem right turn it around again to TDC again and check it again. If a lobe is pointing down it's not right...turn it again. Get it ?

uhh dude, unless you completely know what your doing you should of never of took this job on. a zx-10R valve adjust isnt an "easy" job
I think its good that hes trying. How else do you learn? Its just checking valve clearance so atleast he can know hes not getting screwed by a shop if he were to take it there and have them do everything. He would have to be a dunce to actually mess something up. If he feels he hasnt checked it correctly he can still put it together and take it to a shop or trailer it.

I didn't do it alone. I have everyone here to thank for helping me. Plus I do have a drag race mechanic down the street. I just hate to bother him because he is always so busy, but when I was done I handed him my work sheet and dragged him over to re-check my work. He is the one that told me not to worry about the ones that were close but in spec and also told me about why the retainers break on our 10's. He had a zx10 valve that had mushroomed laying around. Then he handed me one of his valves. He said see how the zx-10 valves are small and have a small seating area. Then he handed me his big titanium valves. But realize this guy runs 5's in the quarter with a 200-300 shot on all his bikes.

With a little of 23000 miles I was 6 valves out 4 on exhaust 2 on intake I was able to move 2 shims around and had to order 4 shims. I was able to work around the TB so I did not take them off or the radiator. After a TB synch. It was a brand new bike.
finally went ahead and did it huh Dave? i got 12xxx miles(my '05) and thought i would take care of this in the winter months.your mileage makes me think i might be able to put it off yet again.

the TB synch had how much to do with that brand new bike feeling?
