I was at the shop yesterday after work dynoing my bike so I can start riding it. I have results that may or may not surprise you. I did the muzzy thin head gasket, stock cams degreed at 105/102, manual cam chain tensioner, stock open header. Well on saturday I had it on the dyno and the dyno wouldn't read past 9k rpm. we tried changing the redline in the dynojet program with mixed results. It would read to 9k one run, then 10k the next and 11k after that, then drop back down to 9k. We couldn't figure out why. The hp was all over the place too. It would read 147, then 137, then 127 and darn near everywhere in between. We stopped because it was being a PITA. I was hoping that I would be able to finish tuning it yesterday and take it home. I was there from 5:30 to 7:00 trynig to get the A/F right, below 5k. The dyno was still only reading to 10k. We chalked the problem up to be the open header. Below 5k it was a pig, running WAY too rich and on the top, 10k & up, the bike would vibrate so bad that the ignition pickup wouldn't read properly. We even tried puting a new ignition lead on the dyno with the same result. Let me tell you though, IT IS FUGGEN LOUD! My wife stopped by the shop to bring me dinner and I told my friend lets give it a break so I can eat. My wife asked how it was going, so I told her we were having problems because of the exhaust and I would just have to deal with it until I saved up the money to get one. She said "just put it on the credit card". What?! OK. So I'm calling Cycle Concepts after I'm done typing this to order my arata shorty, matte black, full exhaust.
FWIW, at 10k rpm it made 147 rwhp.

sounds strong. pump gas or race gas? i'm willing to say you'll be around 168whp on pump gas, and 175whp on U4. just taking my guesses, anyhow. assuming its on a dynojet which it sounds like it is.

That's pump gas. Yes, it's on a dynojet. I'm hoping for 160 rwhp. Don't want to get my expectations up.

sweet....lucky you. in exchange for all my parts...i have to take the wife on a cruise. they can be suprising at times. enjoy the arata!:eek:ccasion1

thats the best idea.. hope for like 155.. that way anything above that is bonus :smile:

i really think you should be near the 170's, provided the dyno reads similar to todays numbers.

look into U4.. its worth about 6%-9% in power. a stock K5 gixxer thou dyno'd at 165whp straight outta the box on the Lee Acree dyno with just VP110.

I've used U4 in the past. It's about $60 for 5 gallons. Too rich for my blood unless I'm racing for money. I want to see numbers that I can expect everytime I fire the bike up, regardless of the fuel. I only use VP110 when I'm using nitrous. Then it's a 50/50, U4/110 mix.

I got a new exhaust and I had to let her get some 3 new vases ($130) for our new house. There's always a trade off.

I just have to hit it harder when I spend a bunch of money... that always shuts her up oh shit I gotta go here she comes LMAO
