I live in big sky montana in the meadow village with an elevation of 6500 feet. I ride all around though and the resort (where I work) is up at just over 7500 feet just ten minutes from my house. Bozeman is just under 5000 feet, Missoula where I will be doing track days is around 3200 feet and the tracks that are around here are Miller Motorsports Park (salt lake) 4200 feet and spokane raceway park is a little under 2000 feet. I also bring it home to fargo nd sometimes with an elevation of 900 feet. Im guessing the huge difference in altitude is going to mess with the tune that I plan on getting in the next month or two. I was thinking I would get a switch to change my map but I would have to have a tune at every elevation that I ride at. Anyone have any ideas or is a basic power commander tune just fine for me?

well the bike will compensate for some, I havent seen anyone post dyno charts about it really though on here, and horsepower will obviously be affected but how much I dont know, but the air fuel ratio is whats important. having a pc3 your just adding or taking away fuel in certain rpm's and tp's.... but the ECU will compansate for barometric pressure.

My thoughts on this is the tune that you have on your bike will most likely be ok to run at all elevations but the bike will yield more or less horsepower where you are... higher the altitude the less the horse power since less air density.

I think the only thing you could do to make sure your on the safe side is dyno tune it where you ride the most, and then have it checked out on another dyno, as long as the air fuel is near spot on you would be ok... dont worry about hp numbers as they will vary anyways.

Ok that makes sense. So just because there is more or less oxygen it wont change how rich or lean it runs?

in theory no, because the computer should be reading the altitude threw the barometric pressure switch so it should compensate for it, but I personally do not know how much the ecu will effect the output of the fuel being delivered to the bike.

It sure is nice not to have to worry about carbs....If you are looking for a place to get it dyno tuned at, Nate at the Bike Shack seems to know how to get the job done. He was trained by Dyno Jet, which actually has a warehouse here in Bozeman. Also i've heard that 4% loss of power per 1000ft elevation is a pretty good estimation.

By the way, did you pick up the bike yet? Sun is shining and if the wind would quit blowing it might actually get nice! lol

I havent picked it up yet, I didnt get the time I needed off work. The ski season is done on the 11th but I work on the 12th too, so I will be going to pick it up on the 13th and back around the 20th. Im really excited because I will have a full leo vince exhaust pc5 with autotune and a few other fun things to put on it as soon as I get it back up here. Its gunna be a fun few days putting the parts on. Ill give you a call as soon as I get back to mt with the bike
