on the usa loom, there is a gray wire that goes from the ignition key to the ecu, what is the purpose of this wire? what does it do?

sorry, yes it is an 04/05. when i looked at the manual it just shows it going from the key to the ecu and does't say what its for. and the uk loom doesn't have it at all.

when i followed it on the 04/05 digram it ended at the ecu

i followed it on the actual loom and it definately goes from the key to the ecu with no junctions. it doesn't go to the meter.
the reason for asking is i'm messing about with my race bike and am making a race loom (see another post on this subject by me) and i don't know weather this needs to be powered or can be cut out.

gray wire

your right it gos to the ecu , there is a gray on one ecu plug and a gray on the other and that gos to the exchaust butterfly . on the switch it says the gray is for ignition

It is for a security device. Documentation concerning that function is intentionally sketchy and won't be discussed on this forum, since otherwise it could help people steal these bikes.
