Really liking this new machine but would like to have something happen below 6000 rpm when I twist the loud handle, what are you guys doing to get some low end grunt out of your Gen 5?

After the obv flash and cat delete a lot of guys seem to be going -1 or +2 on gearing. It doesn't seem to need -1 +2 like gen 4. (For street at least)

Do absolutely nothing. I do play around with rear sprockets but only to keep a stretching chain workable. Meaning, the larger the rear sprocket the longer a chain will remain in service unless it gets a tight link that won't work loose. Why I keep a spare chain ready.

Buy a Ninja 1000, and wheelie from 3500 RPM up. The bottom end power is what is used on the street. And the new liter bikes are big 600s making lots of top end power. Why do we keep buying Supersport roadrace machines, and then hoping they will be good streetbikes?

It shouldnt need much or even anything. I went +1 on the rear, flash, tune, air filter, m4 slip-on with cat delete and bike feels great to me. If you below 6k downshift. Liter bikes now a days make most (usable) power above 8k.

Fireman, IMHO the Gen 5 is an excellent streetbike, canyon carver and back road bomber as well as being a racetrack star. A little more low to mid range never hurts though and makes the bike more flexible and fun to ride. BTW, I have a ZX-6R in the garage also, so I'm well versed in screaming the guts out of a bike to go fast. That said, this engine is capable of making excellent power down low, check out the Akrapovic website and their dyno chart for the Gen 5 with 3/4 system.

A bit offtopic but two queries:

1. What is better between going -1 upfront or +2 at the rear? Why?
2. Will the stock chain fit if one of the sprockets is changed (-1 or +2)?

Any particular brands to opt for incase of Sprockets?

Not at all. The low end is perfectly designed for twists and street and track. Pure perfection for the throttle.

Going smaller up front makes the bike feel more "twitchy" but going up in the rear is adding "unsprung weight" to the rear wheel. Both have pros and cons. I have chosen to stick with the 17T front.

Can't comment on what fits with the OEM chain since I've never run them, I take them off as soon as I get the sprockets in.

Unsprung weight? Surely you cannot feel the extra 3 grams of weight added with a different sprocket.

Going down a tooth on the front is cheaper and your oem chain will fit.

I also don't think the majority of riders would notice, but a larger rear vs a smaller front would increase chain pull/leverage. But again, most don't even know what that is. lol

But, it's still a byproduct... lol
