Gen 5 Coolant Overflow level

I tried using the search, but came up empty so here it is,
When I bought it from dealer the coolant overflow bottle was in between low and full, when I ride the level rises and after a 30 - 60 min ride the level is much closer to the full level indicator. as the days went on, upon starting the bike I checked the level during my pre ride b/s checks and its sitting at the low mark, but when I ride the level rises a good amount reaching the full mark.. my question is should I be adding more coolant when cold to get it to the fill line, my only concern is when riding, with the level consistently rising, should I be worried about there being too much in the bottle. What is the process of the radiator and cool and the overflow, why is the level getting lower at a decent rate without any leaks being seen. thanks for all and any replies.

When the bike is cold the level should be between Low and Full. It's normal for it to rise when the bike is hot. It's perfectly okay if it goes above the Full mark when hot. There is an overflow tube so if for some reason it was too full it would vent that out. That's not something you want to happen but it's better than the alternative.

So I should purchase some kawi coolant and when cold, fill it til its 3/4 of the way to the fill line? thanks for the reply.
That would be fine, or fill all the way to the Full line (which is what the service manual says on page 2-24/2-27). It says if coolant is below L then fill to F. I think you can use regular green 50/50 (e.g. Prestone). Or if unsure just do a complete coolant change with 50/50 (see page 2-26 in Service Manual). It only takes a little over a half gallon total. The service manual doesn't specify "Kawasaki Coolant". It just says on page 2-12:

Type: Permanent type of Antifreeze
Color: Green
Mixed Ratio: Soft water 50%, coolant 50%
Freezing Point: -35C
Total amount: 2.6L (2.7 quarts)

I use Engine Ice in mine as my track org allows that since it is a Propylene Glycol based antifreeze. They do not allow the stock Ethylene Glycol based (Prestone, etc).
Much appreciated TDH, I was thinking of switching over to Engine Ice pretty soon. Had it in my 07 10r and liked it a lot.
:grin2:Actually just ordered Engine Ice from Revzilla lol
It should not be below the "LOW" mark when the bike is at ambient temperature (cold) when held level. Other than that, no issue. It always goes up when the bike gets to operating temperature. My understanding has always been the "FULL" mark is where, ideally, it should be when hot so as to prevent coolant overflow so that nice slippery stuff doesn't get all over your rear tire. Between the lines when cold is likely fine, that's where mine (Gen 4) is.

Isn't all this info in the owner's manual?

That's actually another question I have, with the bike I have an owners manual, should I have received a service manual or is this the same thing?

No service manual, but the owner's manual should have this info, I should think. Anyway I think the question is answered for now.
