Gen5 gear position sensor is different and shift drum connection to sensor is different. Not done it myself, but heard of prject where gen5 engine went into gen4 bike and he used gen4 gearbox only to match gp sensor with gen4 electronics. Does gen5 drum works in gen4 gearbox needs confirmation?
I remember reading about this in a german forum and belive (not sure) that sensor electrical outputs were not compatible. I think it is too much work to modify/adapt the sensor electrically. Better compare/measure drums for compability.
Damn. I would think it would just be a halls effect sensor. The split on the gen 5 is just way to close and killing us. Is there any company that makes drop in units with different gear sets or can the gears be swapped out for the gen 4’s on to the 5s shafts?
Put gen4 and gen5 gear ratios into Excel table and multiply gen4 values by 43/40.
When geared 3 teeth differenty at rear, you see following:
At 2nd and 5th both have same speed.
Gen5 has taller 6th (good) and taller 1st (bad).
If no motivation messing with kit gears, then an interesting idea would be using gen4's 5th and 6th gears in Gen5 box, that would make bigger jump going from 4th into 5th.
Kit gear part numbers look same for gen4 and gen5 suggesting good possibility. But I don't know if it is simple swap, because kit manual describes many issues to watch out for when playing with gears and kit shaft was needed with certain gear ratios. Have only changed shift forks myself. Once I investigated if it is possible to have nicely widespread box like s1000rr or R1 2015 using kit gears, yes it is, but gave up idea quickly, because many expensive parts are needed and no experience doing it myself.

I have a '16 Gen 5 ABS that I love but really don't love the ABS.. For those that know, is it a matter of simply pulling two fuses under the seat to disable it with no side effects, like I read you can do on the Gen 4's? Or does the Gen 5 with the IMU and new electronics make this impossible?
