Gen 4 cutting out

2408 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Porschenut
I have a gen 4 zx10r and when I am at higher RPMs (9500+) after riding for awhile the bike starts to surge and cut out. Has anyone else had this problem or possibly know what could be causing it

Thanks in advance

Have you removed your fuel tank lately? It's a common issue that when you put the tank back on it pinches the braided fuel line. Members report that their bikes would struggle to go above 8500rpm when the fuel line was pinched. You could also make the same mistake I made the other day and that was to not attach the fuel line back onto the tank properly. I noticed the problem when the bike seemed down on power through the mid range and cut out at 12,500rpm.

Thanks. I've had this problem for a while now and was almost about to pay someone to look at it.
FYI, I hadn't pushed the fuel line coupler completely onto the bare metal tube (coming out of the bottom of the tank) before securing the red retaining clip.

I just had to loosen the red clip and push the coupler another couple millimetres further onto the tube until it stopped.
