30mm front, 25mm rear is where I start on an unknown track. Adjust up/down if zip ties on the forks are too high or too low.

I don't know my free sag.

Thanks. This is what I was shooting for but I'm finding that I have to almost max out on the preload to get to a 30 mm rider sag. I've got a 10.5 N/mm spring and know that's right for my weight. Doesn't sound right that I would have to almost max out the preload to get to a 30 mm rider sag and hence my question. I'm having my tech. pull it all apart and reexamine the forks. Maybe I got the wrong springs :dontknow::dontknow:

I suspect the tech will not find anything wrong. I have 25mm Ohlins cartridges on an R1 and have a similar issue. I've done some searching on google and found others with the same situation. I have .95 fork spring and have 30mm free sag with 7 turns of preload and rider sag of 44mm for my weight of 190 lbs. I wounder if it has to do with a top-out spring in the cartridge.

Could be.

Also, SAG isn't nearly as important on BPF's as previous types. Be worried about response/feel/feedback being correct and not so much about the SAG numbers.

*I'm not saying 5mm of sag is good, but if you're looking for 30-35 and you're at mid 20's, or mid 30's on max or min preload, I wouldn't bother with a new spring to get it exact when running a BPF (so long as your suspension is working well and providing good feedback).

I had a pretty good weekend at Road Atlanta last weekend. First time tracking this bike. I had the sag at about 11 turns in. Rebound and compression were set at the recommended 12 turns in, I believe. These settings seemed to work out just fine. After two full days of riding Advanced pace, front tire wear was excellent and even, and there was reasonably good response and feedback. I may fine tune as I take it to different tracks, but you are right. Once you get rider sag, it's best to go out and ride it and see how it feels.

Topout spring has sweet FA to do with sag, the topout spring i purerly for a cussioned stopper when the front lifts. having correct spring weights for you and your bikes weight is important for the suspension to work 100%
free sag is the bikes ability to hold IT'S own weight and that the first step if it can't hold it's own weight it isn't going to be able to hold your weight as well.
free sags should be around 5-15 mm from and 5-10 rear
with rider sags at 30F and 25 R.
44mm sag front is way too much would sugest the springs are shot or too soft for your weight a 1Kg spring would probly be a better spring for your weight.
I'dd expect to see 44mm on a harley! not an R1.
I'm 85Kg in full gear and run a 1Kg in both my 2012 road bike and my 07 tracker.have around 3-4 turns of preload to get the 30mm total sag.
too much sag means your going to be compensating with the compression and rebound to try control what the spring should be doing.
a spring change is probably the cheapest suspension mod to do for the most benifort.

even with BPF the sag is just as important,
too much sag is way too much weight transfer for and aft on braking and acceleration.
a good tech will set you straight.
