Does anybody know what the technical issues with fitting a 2010 Gen 3 complete engine into a 2008 Gen 3 bike, does all the electric connections marry up & is the 08 ECU compatible with the 2010?? Iv got a good 16.000 2010 engine for a good price and i want to fit it into my Gen 3 2008.

I downloaded and read the service manual for the 2008 ZX-10R, and the procedure for removing and reinstalling the motor is the same from 2008 to 2010.

I also went to Kawasaki Parts House website and compared the parts lists between the 2008 and 2010 models. The 2010 and 2008 have some minor differences between the wiring harness and mounting bolts. You may have to source the 2010 mounting bolts, although it looks like they are just different revisions of the same bolts. The wiring harnesses for the models are also slightly different, although the important stuff such as the speed, crank and cam sensors appear to be the same.

Based on that research, I would say that the 2010 motor will be a direct swap into your 2008 ZX-10R.

The engines should be a direct swap. The only differences I know of in the 2010 is the transmission and the fairings are slightly different. You may have a problem matching up the 08 fairings if any of the mounts go directly to the motor but probably not.

Iv been all over it again unfortunatly its all plugged in correctly. I think the wiring may be a little different IIRC when i fitted a speedo healer a year or so ago (no longer fitted & bike has been fine without it for six months) the instructions were for 08 & 09 stating that 2010 was different, if i could get both instructions then i could bridge the necessary in the grey block connectors.

I finally got the Speedo working there is one small mod to make on the wiring the Speedo is the only issue with a straight swap. As can be seen the left hand pair are black & yellow blue & yellow all you have to do is swap them over.
