Cost, the best upgrade would be a after market re-grind such as Web cams or kent cams etc. But if your on a tight budget your looking at what's on the second market at this time, stock G3 cams to drop in are cheapest option, a race cam option is going to need dialing in which means your gonna need to spend on a tune.

I've pretty much given up on the race cam. I've spent the most part of yesterday's evening looking for one. Placed an order on a site only for them to cancel my order saying it's unavailable. At this point, I think what makes the most sense for my goal, wrenching skill level and budget is the 3rd gen intake cam. How much power you reckon I could realistically expect? Would 4-5 whp be realistic?

The race cams can not be fitted on stock timing, piston to valve issues. Does that mean you were going to pay for a tune, if your going that way then Kent 32 re-grinds (must be IN & EX) are gonna give you the most Power all the way threw the band. But they will cost you around £300 plus the shipping to and from England and 2-3 weeks turnaround. Drop in G3 stock IN and Ex together on stock timing without tune and of course there will be a difference over what you have now as they are worn out of specification. Healthy G1 versus healthy G3 cams in a G1 motor on stock timing without tune i don't know how much power difference there will be. What's out there second hand and available now?

I had the bike custom tuned 5000km ago so I'm gonna avoid the race cam route due to cost of the cams and retune + extra work.

There's nothing available in Italy at the moment. I can order gen 1 stock cams from the US (have asked to provide cam lobe height mesuraments to avoid buying out of spec cams but have not recevied an answer yet). Price ranges from 150€ to 210€ shipped.

Or I can get gen 3 cams from the UK for 220€ + possibly an extra 50€ for customs.

Been looking a lot at local sites with no luck.

Thanks for the replies. Despite showing no apperent sings of wear besides some polishing at the top my intake lobes are 35mm to 35.1mm (the manual says service if below 35.24mm) and my exhaust lobes are 34.4mm (service if below 34.84mm) so I have to change both. At this point I'm leaning towards getting gen 3 intake, not sure if exhaust matters whether it's gen 1 or gen 3.

Well, I must one day go threw all these boxes tucked away in all the corners, I found 3 G3 inlets and 4 G3 exhausts, but all are marginally outside of spec by no more than 0.04 - 0.13. Now I remember It was Gaz who got the last good one. I checked a G1 set and there out as well with the exhaust cam run out excessive as well. These I have iv probably boxed for future re-grinds. Sorry mate.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate you taking the time to take get your cams out and take pictures. I doubt I'll be able to find 10+ year old cams that are still in spec. As long as yours are closer to spec than mine I'd consider buying them. I think I'll take another few days reasearching.

If you want i can sort the best pair, 100 euro + shipping, il send emm wrapped as christmas present so you wont have to pay import.
Do you still have any of the gen 3 intake cams? And how much of a issue would it be to ship to the U.S.? Ive also found its very hard to source performance parts for a gen 1 bike and honestly im about to slap a turbo on mine with about 5psi stock and run it the way it sets lol.

As a matter of fact I do. I ended up never installing the gen 3 cams and just putting the stock gen 1s back. I'll PM you later with a quote. Shipping and customs are the main issue.
