Hi,
Bought an used 2004 ZX10R with aprox 9000km on the clock.
When shifting down thru the lowest 3 gears its pretty harsh and not very smooth.
Don´n know if type oil would do any difference. I have Motul 300V 20-50W.
Up shifting is spot on...down shifting thru the upper gears are ok.
Any suggestions regarding the gearbox would be appriciated...

I had R1´s and GSXR´s before and there is an very big difference in smoothness.

Yeah, mine shifts a little clunky, too. It will shift better when it is fully warmed up. It also seems to prefer 10w40 over 20w50.

How long has the oil been in? Every bike I have ever owned has gotten clunky after 1k-2k miles, even synthetic.

10w40 is a better oil. I'm running Motul 5100 semi-synthetic and shifts are smoother than a hot knife through butter. Ball bearing rearsets help too.

Thanks for your advice, i will try 10-40W next time.
This oil has been in for aprox 750miles, i usually change oil/filter every 1900miles.

I changed oil to Shell Advance 10-40W and hey, presto...Clutch is freeing up much better than before and now the downshifts are...pretty smooth now.

Shell Advance will do it, I wish we could get it in the USA, you definately needed the 10/40 for that cool Swedish Climate.
