Nice bike! Wouldnt it have been more cost effective to sell the 7 and buy a gen3?
Seriously awesome man.... it looks great! Reminds me of when they take old movies and update them with new actors and CGI.

...and I do believe someone across the pond shoe-horned a first gen 10R motor into one of those too... Uber-Sleeper. :)

Let's say it would have been... Then it's not as cool or unique...

Now this zx7r is cool! I had a 93 zx7r green
This is awesome.
thats hot....
what kind of mods did you have to do? cutting or welding for the shock links?
swing arm same width?

head lights are cool also....now you just need to do the tail on it....Id like a 08 tail on the zx7RR but i think a 06 would be easier to convert...
 nice job. Turning old new again. Looks sharpe and very unique.
Bad ass, I would rock thisover a stock gen 3 anyday! Nice work
Thanks for the compliments, guys. I'm really pleased with how things turned out so far as well.

:eek:ccasion1

That's what I was thinking when deciding to take the plunge and upgrade the suspension. I like the idea of having something a bit more unique or at least different in some way.

I Had to make a few custom spacers to compensate for the difference between the 7r swing arm pivot shaft and the 10r. Fortunately, swing arm width at the pivot are identical between the 7r and the 10r. I had custom dog bones made from 6160 aluminum to help raise the rear ride height.

I used an '06 zx6r upper triple clamp so I had to make a custom spacer for that as well in order to get that to mount up correctly. Also had to do some modding to get the ignition to fit the 6r upper triple.

I posted the full build thread on the ZX forums if you're interested:

Thanks, man.

I fully intend to remove those stickers.

Everything is coming back apart this winter so that I can paint the frame, swing arm, and wheels (to keep the color more uniform). In addition, (since removing the front wheel on a 7r means you're removing the speedometer drive cable) I'll probably be installing a Koso gauge cluster and a few other goodies.
Awesome job! Must handle like a dream too
She does. Significant improvement in cornering, overall ride, and especially braking. Not to mention reduced weight (especially rotating mass), which could be a large portion of the previously mentioned benefits.

I'm jealous

Thanks. I'm flattered. She's come a long way since I picked her up three years ago. It's taken some hard work and patience.
So when is a 10 motor going in it?

Probably never. If you go that far you're treading into "zx10r with a zx7r frame" territory. Not really my thing.

If I want a 1000cc motor I'll just buy a zx10r.
