Front brakes not working properly

1708 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  mpp12
So, I took my front wheel off for about 2 months for some repairs and whatnot. After putting the bike back together, I ended up with this:

The brake lever goes all the way down to the handle and when I release and pull again, it works fine. After moving the bike forward or backward about 5 feet, it happens again.

We've bled the brakes (properly). It's an ABS model 2014.

Any help would be awesome

There is another thread going on right now with a guy in the same situation, could be that that your rotors got warped by bumping into something and they are pushing the pistons back into the caliper when the wheel moves. Also your spacers could not be aligned correctly and causing the same issue. Try and lift the front end, spin the front wheel and look for any inconsistencies.
Discs not mounted properly pushing pistons in.
Mounting faces should have no paint on them

By the way, if you don't want to spend a lot on rotors, I just received a 2nd set of Arashi (Chinese) rotors for $199 for my '14 ZX10R. I have been using them on my 2nd set of wheels for my race bike and they've worked just fine for me so I decided to get another set to replace the worn out OEM rotors for a fraction of the cost:

Front Brake Disc Rotors Kawasaki ZX10R (08-13), ZX10R ABS (11-13), GTR1400 (07-11), ZZR 1400 ZX14R (06-08), ZZR 1400 ZX14R ABS (08-13) Arashi - Mad Hornets
Oh also, if your bike happens to still be under warranty the rotors may be covered believe it or not. I had a set replaced on a 4 year old ZX6R that I bought the extended warranty under. I was surprised to find out warped rotors were covered.

Or stupid. That's me. :) Seriously, I cannot tell the difference between OEM and these Arashi rotors. I figured compared to $800/set for OEM I would spend $200 on these and give them a shot. I was surprised at how well they worked.
Seen a lot of Arashi rotors here in DR, cero problems.
