O.K. so I lowsided at 70ish, bike slid for a year or so, then performed gymnastics as it went off the track. so I get the bike put back together and on my test ride I notice the bars are slightly right. CRAP! so I pull the front apart and as I do I figure the only thing that could cause this is bent forks or bent lower clamp. I put a dial on the forks and they're true. so I check the lower clamp and I think its bent ever so slightly. but after staring at the front for 2 weeks I don't know what I see anymore. the top of the right fork leg sits 3/8"
further back than the left. the wheel also points left. so am I right in assuming that with the forks straight the only thing that could cause this is the lower clamp? I'm positive the frams straight for arguments sake. so if thats the case is there any posibility of being able to straighten that small of a tweak out or would you wind up going too far. if you could would you cold bend it? I got one off ebay and it was off a totaled bike for shure so I figure any I get will be worse than mine, and a new one is 300 plus. I am obsessive about stuff like this and its driving me crazy. would you worry about it for a race bike? surely it would at least cause some stiction with the fork? any thoughts?:sad:

forks are tough to bend with out impact, loosen the triple the re tighten, clip ons etc... then when reassembled you should be able to let go and the bike shouldnt drift to one side.


btw your race bike should be inspected thoroughly as it sees more stress than a normal road bike would.

yeah I actually had the whole thing stripped down including taking the lower clamp off, put it on a bench and thats when it looked like one side had more of a gap than the other. its been 2 weeks since I had it tore down so I can't remember what it looked like anymore. there is a lot of optical illusions after stairing at the fork setup for a while. but after I put it back together its still the exact way.I just wanted to get some insight before I pull it down again to remeasure. Thanks

Swap it out it would be extremely hard to get the triple back near 100%. It could also be the upper causing it. Take off the upper and loosen everything and snug it back and see if it is still tweaked, if so then its the lower if not then upper.

Has anyone ever been riding in a straight line at a moderate pace and looked down at thier top tripple clamp ? Check it out sometime. I had several bikes NEW that I had that were never crashed that had the top tripple clamp cranked to the right .
