I asked about this when I had my Showa BPFs rebuilt with Ohlins cartridges. I wanted to get the fork tubes coated gold or buy coated replacements from Race Tech. The shop that did the work for me said that it's hit or miss when trying to remove the bottom sections and if it goes wrong parts can get wrecked. It sounds like you've done this before so you'd know better than me on that point.

Anyhow, my guy didn't want to risk it and I didn't press the issue.
