FYI Gen4, ohlins gas charged fork inserts, planning to start with 1.0 springs, 180-200lb rider, fast bumpy roads with no speed limits.

Ohlins have a wide range of fluids available and the road and track 43 blend 01309-** is rated 19 cst @ 40'c.

Is this a good starting point or should I be looking elsewhere? :dontknow:

Good news: Viscosity is not important, because outer oil does not create damping, inner oil does.

Bad news: Bumpy roads and gas FGR-s don't play toghether well. It's like farmer wearing tuxedo. Extremely expensive service and extremely short service interval. But how much performance is left when not serviced in time, I don't know.

FGR series forks use the standard 1309 oil for the cartridge, and while Carlos is correct the oil outside doesn't affect damping, you will make life easier by just keeping it the same oil inside and out.

One thing to keep in mind is you have to overcome the nitrogen pressure inside the cartridge, which is 6 bar. To compare, Bitubo uses 3 bar and K-Tech uses a spring. While the 6 bar isn't necessarily a bad thing, you must keep this variable in the back of your mind when tuning. Don't be surprised if you start running bigger air gaps and softer springs to help get a good balance.

Thanks for the tips. From memory the documentation recommends a baseline 180mm air gap. There's a supplied chart that calculates variations.

Once the weather breaks and installation is complete I'll roll out and see how things shape up.

Yup, it is 180 mm air gap. If there are issues and you're experimenting don't be afraid to try and go bigger air gap too. There have been times where I'll just add 50 CCs of oil for lubrication and completely eliminate the oil progression. Just depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
