Hello all,

I have only had my bike for several months now, and now my tail/stop light fuse has blown. As soon as I replace it, and turn the key-it's out again. This will occure even if the tail/stop light is unpluged. Has this happened to anybody else? If so, what was the cause?

Get the wiring diagram, find out what else is on the same circuit (there is more than just the tail/brake lamp - I think all the running lights and instrument lighting are on the same circuit), and unplug EVERYTHING on that circuit. Then find out if the fuse blows.

If the fuse blows with *everything* unplugged, then you have no choice but to physically inspect every inch of the wiring harness to find the short-circuit or crossed circuit. You can confirm that this is the fault by removing the fuse and measuring resistance from the fuse holder to ground. If everything is unplugged and there is no short-circuit, it should read infinite resistance.

If the fuse doesn't blow with everything unplugged, then one by one, measure the resistance of every component with a digital multimeter before plugging it back in and confirming that the fuse does not blow. If you find a load that's zero resistance, or you find one that blows the fuse the moment it is reconnected, you have found the problem.

Electrical problems suck.

I've recently had the similar problem where the tail light fuse has blown. However the fuse does not blow out when I turn on the key. It instead blows out when I am riding. I have replaced the 10A with a 15A and it seems to work. When I have more time, I will bring out the multimeter and look for the problem.

Better find the time, because installing a bigger fuse is asking for a fire!

:welcome: Check your wiring harness running behind the left mid fairing.It runs right next to the frame and might rub thru.Mine did the same thing and also killed the bike till I found it.FYI :eek:ccasion1

:+1: and you have an advantage that it happens all the time, so disconnect the rear tail light socket and see if it still happens. If it does then you probably have a wireing problem. If it doesn't you have a bad tail light. Let us know :thumbsup:

:+1: not a real good Idea to do with Electral problems.
