You're damn right I wouldn't.

Don't mean to sound like an old man, but I paid less for my brand new '87 Ninja 750R than what they're charging for that slip-on

Inflation.

:ROFLMAO:

I'm with ya in the fact that is pretty steep for an official Ducati exhaust. Even if it is titanium.

Yesterday was an interesting one for me.

Usually bike shops are not open on Sundays here in my country. On Moto GP weekends however, the local Italian motorcycle shop opens for the Moto GP.

Not wanting to run the risk of potentially missing the GP due to dodgy internet connectivity, I thought a ride out to this shop would be a good idea.

Having owned a 1098s before, I would be kind of used to the mindset of the 'ducatisti'. I was so wrong.

Arriving I realised there was a lot of high dollar builds around. Very few alternate brands, but I parked next to an S1000R and a Gen 2 Hayabusa. Walking in there were some sideways glances already and general mutterings whilst looking in the direction of my bike.

It's not just the bikes, parts and gear that's inflated, it's also the food and egos as well.

I casually noted some of them walk over to my bike and start pointing and looking closer.

They don't watch the racing like us normal folk. I'm used to watching Moto 3 and 2 with sound. I'm also used to listening to the commentators whilst the grid is lined up before the warm up lap and start of the race.

Not to mention the one man band they had playing in the background that knew nothing about the racing and sounded more like a bad karaoke night than a professional.

Eventually I was called by a mate in the area and asked if I rather wanted to hang out at their place to watch the GP. I promptly paid my tab and pulled out their in a hurry with the SC projects pipe letting them know I was in a hurry.

In short. The 'ducatisti' have become even more weird than I remember.

How would I rate this experience? One star. Would not recommend.

This was a timely response as yesterday I had an interesting experience myself.

The local Sunday gathering spot at the local gas station sees their fare share of Duc's pull in. Usually they are in the Euro-bike groupings where they all ride together. It was a colder day in FL, so the turn-out was lower than normal. Be that as it may, a middle eastern guy pulled in on his Ducati Monster. He was apparently out of gas so he pulled up to the pump. He parked the bike, slide his credit card in the slot, and opened the tank ready to refill.

The only problem was he was at one of the 4 diesel refueling pumps at the rear of the station where the bikes gather. No less than 20 of the other riders there inquired about what he was doing and to not put diesel fuel in his bike. His response was "it says diesel only on the tank" and "the opening is bigger to allow the handle to go in". He had just picked up the bike as a rental from a friend or shop apparently. After some serious discussion about Ducati never making a diesel motor and that the Monster Diesel being a model of the bike, he didn't believe us. He pointed to and clung to the badging that said "Diesel Only the Brave Diesel" on the tank. He squirted 2.2 gallons of diesel fuel in it. The rest of us started putting money on the table and taking bets on how long it would run. We stood around, pointing, snickering, and placing our bets.

After several minutes of him standing around, and to prove us all wrong, he hit the starter button. Of course it fired right up and he blipped the throttle a little bit as to reinforce his claim and make the rest us look like the idiots. That's when the exhaust started putting out the thick smoke and the motor wanting to stall. He revved it again before it died. He looked around at it, went off to make a call on his phone, and came back to ask us what he could do to it to keep riding. We told him to call a tow truck. That's when he turned the ignition switch on and pushed the bike to the other side of the gas station with the left blinker flashing. Never did hear the outcome of his dilemma over all the laughter. Poor bike.

They don't call them DoucheCati Owners for nothing.

Skydork, please tell me that's a damn joke and didn't happen in real life.
I shit you not. Not one word in that post is sarcasm or a joke. It is a true, sad story. Honest. I would post up some pictures or video of it if I wasn't so focused on watching the carnage with my own eyes.

It's a Ducati thing. You wouldn't understand.
Sure lots have seen/heard stories like this… but I was at a track day years ago & Ducati club was there with most awesome bikes I’ve ever seen in one place (lots of tasteful bling, retro models, custom paint, etc.,). I had new GSXR 1000 & felt like I’d driven a Honda Accord to a classic car show.

Realized that day I may never be cool but what I did see was those bikes breaking down & my out-of-the-box Zuk owning the straights… but ya they looked way cooler than me 🤓

From experience, I know that a jap bike can go at least two weeks without starting and not have any issues at all.

A ducati? Can't even stay idling whilst warming up after standing for 4 days in a garage - I had the Ducati race ecu and power commander 5 on my 1098s.......and it still stalled at stupid times.

Apparently the newer Ducati's don't require as much maintenance and attention as the older models.

I know I am new here but gonna weigh in. Just sold my 899 Panigale, had it for nearly 4 years and to be honest it never really gave me any moments of trouble.

I had to do the major service at 15k whilst I owned it which was eye watering - £1500, but other than that, as with all my bikes, oil changes, filters etc all done myself and never cost anymore than any other bike I have ever owned. I'm UK, so only ride from about April to late September, bike is in storage for 6 months of the year. Used to take the battery off and keep it trickle charged at home, other than that would always start first time come April.

Only thing that went on me was an exhaust sensor, that went in my first year of ownership. If memory serves me right it cost me about £200. I do agree that Ducati servicing prices are steep though, but if you do it yourself or find a good independent then I don't think they are anymore expensive or unreliable than any other manufacturer (my experience).
