Ok so I got a brand new set of tires last night, took my bike out like I always do with a new set of tires. Putting along...stopped at a stop sign made a slow right turn and wooop Im down. Broke my rear faring damn it. No real bike damage just plastic, peg and mirror. Rode back by my drag race buddies house and he said I was stupid for not doing a burn out first. First I have ever heard of that. Anyone else?

I don't think so, I went back and looked. It was like glass LOL. It's a clear day dry roads...my guess is crap left on the tire from install. I barely even leaned...only about 200 yards on the tires.

That or he forgot he is on a 1000cc bike with Major Power and NO weight. :badteeth:

When I get a new tire I ride like grandma for awhile or hit the HWY and bust some spirited runs to heat the tire up....but then again I use Mich tires and trust them so much from my younger days when I would ride in England in the wet at 120mph on long turns with confidence.

yeah id never burn out on a brand new tyre... ive never had any problems with brand new tyres after they are installed I just scrub them in doing the ole weaving back and forth method I usually get both tyres to slide the first time i do it but nothing that would cause ya to go down... good rule of thumb though is take it easy untill you get some heat in the tyres...

I try to get the slick new shine off riding very slow and hitting the Highway. I guess a slow quick burn out won't hurt. But I have never done it before. I am cheap and tires cost like hell as it is. Sorry about your small spill though.

bummer. i got a right side.
you know, when i get new tires, i hit them with a belt sander just to get the shine off them. but in order to get them safe, you need to do a couple of heat cycles. heat em up cool em down, just be super careful on the turns. just do the weave thing at low speeds.

I don't have a belt sander, but I do wash the WHOLE tire; sidewalls and treads, to clean off any mounting lube.

Then, I just use course sandpaper, by hand, on the outer chicken-strip areas, where lean angles would get dicey on new tires. The center portions will take care of themselves while riding the streets at normal speeds.
