I was on the Freeway in about third or fourth gear(about 65mph) I was down shifting and all of a sudden an "pop" sound and some grinding, bike was still moving rolling. I made it over to the side of the road, clutched, and the RPM's went up quickly. I turned the bike off and it would not turn back on, the starter wasn't even moving. The clutch still is engaged (which worries me a bit) and I still have to clutch in order to shift while bike is off.

Help please!

Doesnt sound like the clutch, the bike would still start if it was the clutch. When a clutch goes out you can still start the bike you just cant go anywhere.

Alternator? Where was the grinding noise coming from? The middle of the bike, or somewhere from the side?
