hey guys, due to an unfortunate accident that took my beloved 2008 GSX-R1000 yesterday morning i will be in the market for a new bike in the next few weeks. i have a the new gen zx-10r, new gen GSX-R1000 and the new S1000RR in mind. i am hoping to get some insight on the ZX-10 as far as serviceability and mod-a-bility lol and get a general consensus from people who own this bike and use it like i do.

for me, my GSXR i had i made it a street/strip bike. it dyno'd 197whp and 93torque and weighed 380lbs with no fuel. it was a very fun bike and lots of mid range torque. i ride VERY tame on streets, i ride the speed limit in towns and cities and just like to go for casual rides, every now and then on a country road where there is no cars, houses or people i will just give it a go through a gear or 2 and get it out of my system. i like to drag race at the local strip and like to enter events and want to enter 1/2 mile speed run events as well. i like having a bike with good roll on torque but my favourite is a top end rush feeling when dropping it down a gear. i mod the shit out of my bikes and like the simplicity of gaining access to various parts (example is the new gixxer being able to remove the transmission without removing and tearing apart the whole engine - stuff like that is a HUGE bonus to me) not sure what the zx10 is like

for you new gen owners, can you comment on:

-serviceability
-how the bike in general performs on the street (roll on torque and general behaviour)
-drag racing
-can the engine handle any nitrous or boost? i have a turbo kit on order for my GSXR planning to make 350whp but not that my gsxr is destroyed i am no longer turbo and not wanting to rebuild another engine in order to do so

how do they compare to new gixxer 1000 and s1000rr?

i also found a 2019 zx10 double R, 1 of 500 made for 18k canadian price very tempting

It... depends? I',ve said it before and I say it again, there are no bad literbikes anymore. The biggest issue IMO is what you are willing to spend, and what you expect. And what generation we are talking about. I assume the latest of everything.

The Beemer 2020+ is the strongest 'out of the box' bike, for a beemer price. I know very little about dragstrip guys. Only what I've seen on youtube, and there it seems to be ZX10R vs GSX-R.

ZX10R is a solid bike, with an engine that needs its revs. I heard tuning + derestrict will alter that greatly, but the Beemer and GSX-R will likely out-perform the ZX10-R in the midrange, thanks to their vvt.

So...why the ZX10-R at all?

It has some sneaky upsides. For example, it has a butter-smooth engine. Which is what you want if you twist your wrist at max lean. Stuff like that.

Its a solid bike for a fair price. It is led down in certain areas by either restrictions, or sub-par components with its suspension. If you are willing to spend a bit on your ZX10R, you'll end up with a better-tuned, better-turning bike than even the Beemer. Probably with a lower overall pricetag.

But again, it depends.

mostly asking for people who have a gen 5 and use it for drag racing and 1/2 mile events if they are 'happy' with the choice they made getting it over say the new gen gsxr. all new bikes are fantastic yes and cant go wrong but i do feel each one is better suited to say drags vs lapping vs roll racing vs street everyday riding. we cant test ride bikes here, can only sit on them, the gen 5 zx10 is still pretty dam new to R&D but maybe there is enough info out there on them from people who have put some nitrous through them and are finding the stock block power limitations and seeing the short falls of the ZX10 overall. i can search google and youtube all day but wont always get the answers i am looking for.

You cant go wrong with gen5 or newer gsxr1k both make good power and torque, the gsxr does make lil more midrange but the gen5, gen6 make more hp so in roll race game the zx10 would shine better. Its plenty going fast on both at track Rickey gadson went 8.0s in 1/4 on 2020 zx10r stock motor with bolt ons so that should say something.

In the S1kRR and ZX10R cases you will be forced to tune it. S1kRR electronics are superior and its easier to ride to the limit largely because of them (and the midrange advantage). But I feel the BMW's engine reliability is lower and would never own one without a warranty. I've owned both bikes (2013 BMW, Gen6 Kawi).

Not a drag racer, sorry.

I have 22k miles on a 2015 ZX10R. That was the last year for the Gen4 I believe. I'm the original owner and I love it. I also have a 97 GSXR 600 and a Gen3 busa. I've also ridding and did a review video on a 22 BMW S1000RR. The BMW is a great bike and I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the 1k's now days. I'm not a fan of the clutch on the BMW. It's got an electronic package 2nd to none, the latest and greatest has a revised engine that is narrower and you can tell the difference when you sit on it. However, the clutch and mirrors (important for riding around town) suck. It's super easy to stall and seems to have a bit of a tall 1st gear which makes it worse.
I've gone on multi day trips with my ZX10, rode it out to California from Colorado and back a couple of years ago. I think the best way I can describe the ZX10R is it's great at just about everything. The bike behaves really well around town, the power is butter smooth throughout the entire RPM range. I can go up to the mountains and have way to much fun with it and run errands around town and it simply doesn't ever complain no matter how I ride it! I've lowered the gearing a bit I'm more concerned with acceleration then 180+ MPH and using the clutch less in stop and go traffic. Obviously the latest gen ZX10R has the new aerodynamics integrated winglets and WAY more electronics then my gen4 to include cruise control which is super handy if you go for long rides.

I have no experience drag racing so nothing to add there.

The ZX10r added a quick service transmission in 2011 which carries forward. FYI, even if cost is no limit for you, you'll want to avoid the homologation special ZX-10RR for what you want to be doing. I've read that it runs 2 piston rings as opposed to 3 and it loses reliability for that reason.
