CMRA TWS Race Report...

Wow. I am soar. Had a great long day of racing yesterday. All in all it was a good w/e. I think this was the first race where I actually had to push myself, and have someone pass me after I passed them.

Race 12 A Superbike.

First race of the day, and after 2 redflags and waiting a couple hrs on ambulences to come back, the races were cut down from 6 laps to 4. (2.9 mi course.)

So with only 4 laps you dont have as much time to set folks up cause the race isn't very long...so if someone gets a second on you...you really have to be at least a second faster to catch back up as opposed to 2 more laps, you could calculate a pass easier...anyway, I digress...

I was gridded well, in t1 I was in 6th, and quickly passed into 4th, by t3, and was out to run down the leaders. By t6 of the second lap I had caught up to 3rd place. I was right on his but settin the draft for the back straight and he ran wide out of T6,. I was target fixating and RIGHT on his butt...

lol, so I ran off the track right behind him...lotsa dust and rocks...but....no crash. We both got right back ont he track with some headshake, and my BEAST of a b|ack 10r, busted the pass on the power, before goin into t7.

I ran a bit wide and with dirt on my tire, got a BIG slide and ran a bit wide, but I think he was having the same problems as me, and I got lucky and pulled it off. So we diced it up some, and I think he made a couple of mistakes here and there...so i stayed ahead of him...

well, on the last lap, I passed one and two on the straight. I held in second into t2, as the leader passed me on the brakes into t1. I had a good slide commin outta 2 that scarred me a bit, lol trying to keep up...

well then the guy behind me punks me on the brakes goin into t3 and stuffs me...I run wide and create a gap b/w the 2 leaders and I...wich I try to make up b/w t3 and 10, wich I did pretty well...

well before entering t10 I was REALLY late on the brakes, hoping to be close and get them on the power commin outta the last turn before the end...

well I was commin in a bit too hot and they were taking VERY defensive lines and basically parked in the turn...I thought it wasn't a big deal....

but I guess I loaded the front tire too much and TUCKED it...:eyecrazy: :dontknow:

So I tried to get back up and roll, but the bike wouln't start...but, no big deal, bikes good to go, so I got reteched and got ready for my next race...

Race 16 (Formula 1)

So I had just wrecked, but I was determined not to let it get me down.

Almost looped the start, but good none the less.

Got up to the front group and diced it out well, it was a hard race, and I was running the same times as the leaders, just didn t' have the balls or the willingness to try to push for the podium...

I just took it easy and help onto my 4th position. So I thought that 4th wasn't a bad finish, cause I felt like I could have gone faster...but since Im a ninny and obviously dont know how to ride the bike since it seems like I keep crashin...I didnt' have much confidence in my capabillities.

In the carisel turn that I crashed in I kept bobbling and choppin the throttle.

But over all it was a good, and well faught race...the guy behind me passed me once I think and kept showing me a tire.

But honestly, his bike doesn't have the power of mine, he's riding a honda 1K, actually I was passing all the bikes on the front straight...but I was gettting some high speed wobble at about 160 so I had to back off where I should have been staying on the gas...

I had the damper cranked up really high, but wobble at 160+ that wont go away...Im willing to give up a place for that...:rolleyes:

Race 18 (A Superstock)

Again a good race. I had a few GOOD slides and crooked wheelies...the tires going away and I was really hoping to get a podium finish for the day...

571 and I were dukin it out the whole race. Id pass him, he'd pass me...

A couple of times he nearly ran off the track, and I honestly was having such a good time racing with him I caught myself saying..."dont run off...dont run off.." lol, not a great philosify when racing I suppose, but after crashin...and my wife telling me she was so nervous she felt like puking...:sad:

I in third the last couple of laps and then the dude passed me...nearly ran off the track...

I was close to him through all the turns...setting him up to pass b/w the last turn and hte finish line, and goin into the chicane right before the last turn...I hit a falst neutral....grrrrr...and revved it up quickly and slammed second...slid the rear good, but there was too much gap and no way I could pull him...

So theres my report mingled with all my excuses. Im hoping to get some pics of my crash soon...which I will post...

Check back cause I should get some pics either today or tommorow which I will edit this original post and put them there for those who're interested.

Whudda you think was causin the high speed wobble?

Dunlop tires.....

Since you feel you HAVE to have a big rear tire, why don't you try the Pirelli 190/55. I haven't measured it myself but Alan (#12 Expert) told me that the Pirelli is actually wider than the Dunlop. And it will cure that head shake. If I am not mistaken, I think the highest placing privateer teams in AMA Superbike are on Pirelli tires.

Other than that, great write up Hill. You need to keep it on 2 wheels so that you don't mentally detune yourself with those "offs". BTW what are you doing on the same line as the guy who led you off in T6? You can't pass if you are on the same line. It kinda sounds like he probably knew you were there and he may have been protecting the inside during corner entry. But that move might have made him early apex a little which resulted in him running out of room on the exit. You might have been able to square him up there. Just take a little wider entry so that you are outside his line on corner entry. Then turn in a little quicker/harder and head for a late apex. This allows you to stand the bike up a little earlier and get back on the throttle sooner. This gives you more corner exit speed than the other rider and it puts you on a line well inside of him at the exit of the turn. Then you wind up making a clean pass instead of following him off road while he is out checking the traction in the dirt. I have managed to pass a better and faster rider (Fastesthare) in T6 by doing that exact move. Of course, fastesthare passed me back a few turns later, but it sure was fun while it lasted.

BTW, good write up and pics. Next time post the pictures with you on the podium! :thumbsup:

Hell if I listened to that advice I'd still be slow, but I wouldn't have crashed either. Gotta twist it to git it, right:badteeth:
