I have asked this question before in the past and I researched it 1 million times but I am always unsure of this one thing. If I lightly press it up and down on my tightest spot I have 1 inch of play. If I put a little tension on it I have 1 1/8" of play but if I put a lot of pressure on it I could almost have 1.25" play. what is the proper way to do it because I swear that 1 inch of play seems really tight. I'm pretty sure the manual says to push down and pull up on the chain when measuring so that would leave me at at least 1 1/8 inch play. That seems so tight to me..

Just happen to have the manual open, it says..

Standard 30-35mm (1.2 ~ 1.4 in)

doing what you are currently doing I've always kept mine between 1.2~1.4"

You say you are currently at 1.125"

I have a 2015. The chain guard says between 1 inch and 1.4 inches

And if memory serves me right, the workshop manual for my 2013 says to measure it when applying about 10kg (22lb) of force in either direction.
