I want to change them out.

Thinking of
16 front
42 rear

Do I go with 520 or 525?

Steel or Alum?

Where should I order them from?

Thanks for your help.

I would stay with the 525, thats just my prefrence in steel, but if your looking for MAX hp then go with the 520 in alum. I dont know if I would go up to a 42 in the rear, I could see 1 down in front and maybe 1 up in the rear. Once you go past that your talking about a large diffrence in top speed.

Ok thanks for the help.
I will go with -1 in front, +1 in the rear in steel 525

Where should I buy them at?
The easiest/smartest thing to do is just change the front to a 16t. See how you like that, if you want more then change the rear. If you just change the front you keep the same chain and it only takes an hour at most and cost about $25 at most.
Get the Kaw sprocket #13144-1320 from the Z1000, it has a dampener on it.

Just my opinion,
Mike

hmmm...

Thats good advice.

I wish I read this before I ordered the both sprokets and a new chain.

Wont dropping down to a 525 help as the rotational mass will be lower?

525 is stock on the zx10r. Years ago manufacturers used 530 on literbike, but slowly they are dropping the numbers. I'm sure you would see 520s on literbikes, if they could last more than 5000 miles.
