Did a search but couldn't come up with what I needed. The zx is getting new chain and sprockets but I'm not sure if I should do the 520 conversion. I couldn't find a post where someone dynoed before and after to know if it is really worth switching and if it will hold up on a drag bike. The bike is for the strip and is not rode on the street at all.

The bike has a few mods nothing extreme. Motor is stock, PC V (custom tune), open 4 into 1, open air box, throttle body mod, clutch mods, -3 +3 sprockets, strut and bars and a M/T 7" sqaure walled slick. The only other mods coming up is air shift and launch control this winter and eventually head port and polish and degree the cams next winter.

Also what brands do you advise using. I've used EK, Tsubaki and DID in the past with good luck for chains and used all kinds of different sprockets. Thanks for any help given.

believe it or not, this subject has come up quite a few times, just not as often as "which is the best oil/exhaust". Most of us are running the EK or DID. Some guys run a 520, some a 530. I personally have an EK MVXZ in 525. Based on what your bike sounds like, you are going to come out of the hole VERY hard, I would use the ZZZ in 525.

Sprockets: Driven, Renthal, Drive are all good. Recommending Steel over Aluminum because of longevity and the potential to bend teeth.

Question for you, how is -3 on the front working? seems like it would be hard on the front sprocket and chain with that kind of bend. maybe this go around opt for -2/+6 or -1/+9 instead and see?

I would NOT recommend going to a 520 chain size for the strip. That is a light-weight chain and you're liable to snap it under the repeated stress of hard launches like that. As Op said, stick with a quality 525.

i recomend you gettin a Ek 525 ZZZ strongest/best chain on the market and last long time.

EK525 MVXZ or ZZZ is the way to go. I've run both with no issues ever.

Thanks for the quick replies and the advice. I'll plan on sticking with the 525 and thats nice because I have a ton of sprockets for the 525 chain also.

-Op- the -3 +3 so far works the best for me and my weight for the combos I've tried with et/mph.

very cool. I wasnt suggesting a change in ratio or anything, I was talking about going bigger on both front and rear, so the chain wouldnt wear as quickly because of having to make such a tight bend around the front. The changed gearing I was suggesting offer the same gear ratio.

What et/mph are you hittin?

I run 5.90's, 113-115mph depending on head wind, I have several different sprockets laying around I can try some different combos on test n tune nights. I have -1, -2 and -3 for the front and +1 through +6 for the rear, most only have a few passes on them. Some of the friends I run with are running 120+ mph through the traps. I out weigh some of them by 60 to 70 lbs one guy even more. I'm 6'7" and weigh 246 lbs suited, I'm up for trying any combo -Op- even changing the ratio if it would help(I can always buy different sprockets if needed), with my weight what would you suggest tying?

15/45 should work pretty good for you since your runin 1/8 and take some stress off that chain.

what zx said. I would try 15/45 (-2/+6) as it will maintain almost the same gear ratio as what you have right now, but there will be less stress placed on the chain so it wont wear out as quickly
