I'm looking for a new side can for my 6RR, but am debating what material it should be made of. I had a CF Akra on my old 6RR (wish I still had it), and an aluminum Yoshi on the 6R I had before that, but I've never had titanium. I like carbon since it doesn't rust and is cool to the touch, but am not sure I want that look again.

How does titanium compare to aluminum or stainless steel in terms of heat?

I would say that if you are simply shaving weight (go with the lightest). Buy the one that blends with the theme that you are going for. If you have alot of C.F., then get the carbon one, if youre going for another look, get the Ti. one...post pics when your finished.

CF looks cool for the 1st year then discoloration starts.
I'm running with a CF micron can on my black bike and it just look right
but now that the color started to go "yellowish", I got a black
aluminum shorty can... I've had it for about 2 weeks so it still
looks new... my main "thing" is that it's gotta be black to match the bike.

Quality of the CF has a lot to do with the longevity of the finish. There's cheap CF and there's expensive CF. Easy to tell in the price of the system. You usually get what you pay for. Usually!

i've had muzzy carbon fiber and akra carbon fiber. both have faded with time. the akra was actually worse than the muzzy, so go figure. i was thinking titanium myself because of this reason and the fact that the carbon can is $300 more! can't beat the look when it's new though!

Thanks to all that replied. I'm thinking of going with titanium this time around since it fits the look that I'm going for. I'm no track junkie (yet) so weight savings really isn't that big a deal to me. I just hate the way the stock pipe looks and how hot it gets. I guess I got spoiled from the CF Akra on the old bike. I really don't want to spend Akra $$ this time around either since I still have 2 other bikes to maintain and buy shit for too.

Right now the front runner is a Two Bros M-2, but we'll see what happens I guess.

I got it narrowed down to two candidates - the Two Bros and a Micron that's going hella cheap on eBay. I understand that Micron may have gone out of biz, but I'm not sure I care too much about that since once the pipe is installed it's just there, and it works or it doesn't. Both are titanium.

Who's got experience with both? Pros and cons? I'm not looking for huge HP gains - when I want to ride a more powerful bike I get on the 10R and call it good, but a little bump is always good. It's mostly for the looks and so I can actually hear the bike's power band.

It depends on how the bike will be used, if it'll be exposed to sunlight constantly (like sitting out in the sun at work all day), if it'll see repeated dyno pulls, etc. Heat (dyno pulls, track days) and sunlight dergrade carbon fiber over time. From a longevity standpoint high quality titanium wins.

I went for the Micron titanium (actually my wife's choice). It arrived this morning and I just got done putting it on.

Before (actually WAAAAYYY before, right after I bought the bike)

And after...

Those hideous golf club size turn signals are gone, btw.
I'll try to get a better pic when there's some daylight and I get her cleaned up a bit.

I've only ridden around the block with it once so far to test it out, but so far I like it. It's a lot better than stock, and a lot different than CF.

For comparison, here's my old bike

haha, no not at all I have a motard sitting in my garage LOL, truthfully I had that same 07 650r for my girl too, she wrecked it though. I spent so much money on her little bike then she wrecked which I could careless about the bike really just as long as shes ok. Nice combo though, my zx10r right now has a 15,42 combo on it, so it feels basically like a 600 running threw the gears but with the power of a 1000.

I like the look but over time carbon goes to shit compared to titanium and even aluminum. The heat cut down is great but if you use your bike as much as I do in a year I will be buying a new exhaust again.

Done!

A bit late tho...I just installed the Ti can.

For $150+$20 shipping I couldn't go wrong. Yeah, I know Micron's UK ops are out of biz, but they had a pretty strong rep over the years and I can see why. They must have had some shitty management, or invested all their money in real estate or something.

Besides, like I said my wife is the one who picked it out. Pretty much everything she's ever picked out for me turned out to be a winner! When I go against the grain and do the opposite of what she suggests things always wind up going to hell in a handbasket.
