OK, I want the comfort of the ZX14 but the scratchability of a ZX10. I have no interest in drag bikes, lengthend swingarms etc. So has anyone carried out a project to make the ZX14 lighter, flickable, harder braking without fade etc. Can the 14 be improved enough to give the 10 a run for its money (or even beat it)? If so, what worked and what didn't, any recommendations. I can imagine fitting an Akro Evo titanium system and carbon wheels would go a long way to improving the handling and weight but what else?

My 10 is in the shop for a service on Saturday and I've booked out the 14 out for a test ride!!

Fair points. I have to actually ride one first and see how it feels. I recently did a track day at Catalunya and the ZX10 came alive like it never has on the road and I loved it. A Sports Tourer like the 14 can never hope to be a 10 and so most people would say stick with the 10 (which I may do) but by the time I got back from the Catalunya trip, having done over 3,000 miles, my back, wrists, knees etc. were shot. I've been back over 2 weeks now and I still haven't got full feeling back yet in the thumb and first two fingers of my left hand (they went numb from the daily vibration dished out by the 10). Both me and my mate (who was on an 04 Fireblade) agreed that we need to find something different to tour on in future, but preferably something that can still scratch when you get to the twisties. I'm keen on the K1300S as there was a guy a Catalunya who was flying on one and overtaking a good number of people. So I'm wondering how the 14 would have done in the same situation and whether it can be improved.

That bike looks way shorter wb than factory, maybe it has a 10 arm on it??? dont know for sure if the arms are different length but that rear tire looks way forward. and using the shot on the straight im sure helps the power a bit. that solves two of the three problems i mentioned in post 2 now you just need to loose 50-100 pounds and it may be feasible to run with an average rider on a 10.

This is stock. I don't see how you could shorten it much

I rode my mans 14 it felt wierd at first but after a few more rides i liked it seems to build up power slow but yet gets triple digits damn fast... were the is like a rocket from takeoff till you run out of rode.

You could use the SICOM ceramic brakes . More stopping power and they work better as they get hotter http://www.sicom-brakes.com but Aagin they are costly i just bought a set for my racing Buell . Ill tell you the results come summer . I also own a ZX14 . I am racing the Buell because I too like pojects they say cant be done but it costs Cubic dollars lol

You can improve the 14s' handling ofcourse. But it will never have the "nimbleness" of a 10. Wheelbase, weight, center of gravity and geometry will always favor a 10. Depends on what you want; a Super Sport that carves or a Repli-Racer that you have slightly modded for a bit more comfort. Riding ability will play a big part in who you will keep up with or pass, so individual mileage may vary.

Well, I don't think I can get my 14 to handle like a 10, but I do want to get the most out of it for what I can do on it. I already have race tech springs for my weight and gold valves seatting in the closet now. The plan is to pull off the springs and shock this winter and send then to race tech. I'm going to have the forks rebuilt with the new parts and the correct spring, and revalve for the back. I plan on doing my first track day on it in the spring.
