Hi all,
New to Kawasaki's, I sold my R1 and kicked myself over it and am picking up a 2015 ZX10R to replace it.
The bike has BST CF rims front and back. I am nowhere near a good enough rider to need the weight reduction from stock rims, and it seems like these are pricey (~3000$ a pop on their website).
Are these desirable wheels on the secondary market, and if so how much are used CF rims worth? They look to be in immaculate condition.

Yes, they're highly desirable and if you're not too attached to them then you'd certainly earn some cash by selling. They would take some time to sell since the 2011-2015 is getting older and owners aren't very willing to spend 1/4 - 1/3rd of the value of their entire bike to upgrade. I think 2016-2022 BST wheels would sell very quickly at 60-65% of MSRP but our bikes have different spacing so they aren't directly compatible with either the 2016+ or 2010-. This is what I've observed from tracking aftermarket wheel listings for the last 10 years. I would say that if you had the right local buyer, you should get 50% of MSRP for perfect 2011-2015 wheels. If the wheels are older and the weave is starting to go yellow from UV exposure that would affect the price further. Yours seem to look fine though.

If the stock wheels didn't come with your bike already, I'd suggest that you simply keep the BSTs since the cost of buying used OEM wheels offsets the cash balance too much to make the swap and sale worth it.

Your most likely buyer would be local to you since you're a new member on the forum. BTW, you've got quite a sick bike there. Welcome.

Yea I think what you’re saying makes sense, i wonder if CF rims are as structurally sound for regular bumpy roads as alloy? I’d be heart broken to crack these on a Michigan pothole… Appreciate the welcome, looking forward to bringing it home and seeing how it compares to my old R1.

CF is structurally sound, the issue is it is a lot stiffer than a metal counterpart. It won't bend, it will break. Do your potholes bend regular rims as well? If not, then your CF rims should be fine

I'm in Michigan, so about as far as possible from Vancouver unfortunately haha.

My Gen 4 also came with BST's


Also has the OEM wheels as well.

I'd rather use the BST's than the OEM's.

To note, they can take the mileage and abuse.

I appreciate the input, how long have you run the BSTs for? Noticeable difference from the stock wheels or fairly minor?

I've run them for almost two years now?

There is a noticeable difference in my opinion.

I am a bit more cautious of potholes, where there may be...... Other than that, I just run them.

I am cautious of who works on the strip and fit though. That much is certain.


Other than that, a ZX14 clocked over 120 000 kms already on the street with BST's. No issues.

Solid choice! Beside the performance benefit, the 5 spokes look so much better than 3 as well.

You should be able to market your wheels to the 5th & 6th generation crowd as well. Your 4th gen front wheel is forward compatible with a few small parts and the rear wheel is identical and a direct swap. See details in this thread here: Gen 5: 2016-20 - Gen 4 front wheel to Gen 5 kit

This makes me happy.

In the future, I may refit my Gen 4 to Oem and sell.

I'd like to keep the BST's.

If it means I can perhaps take on a Gen 5 and retrofit the BST's to that bike, I'll be a happy camper.

Some useless information.

Just followed up with the OEM manufacturer here - Blackstone Tek.

They're based in Johannesburg.

According to what I read or heard somewhere - a scan is recommended after seven years.

This is actually incorrect. The only time BST would suggest or advise a scan is if the wheels had suffered a hit - accident/pothole etc et al.

The gentleman at BST said that there is nothing to worry about as long as the wheel tech changing tires doesn't screw up.

Also to note, the cush drives on the hub are a consumable item and should be checked every few thousand kms - this is the same for the cush drive in the OEM rear wheel any way.

Also:

Currently they have wheels with DOT's as early as 2003 that are still running with no issues.

The DOT's on my wheels are 2017 for instance, so I'm sure we have nothing to worry about.
